Recently, Michael McLeod and Cal Foote were granted an indefinite leave of absence from the New Jersey Devils. This news broke shortly after five players from the 2018 Team Canada squad were instructed to surrender to London Ontario Police to face charges of sexual assault. Both McLeod and Foote were on that Team Canada roster.

As a female hockey fan, thank you for saying that the facts of the story are more important than hockey and the Devils. The coverup and the police closing the case early is extremely upsetting, I hope justice can finally get served.

As a victim of these certain actions, as a boy and recently as my transgender self….(I know boo, hiss I do not count…) who also as a legal professional who has worked on cases such as these….YES, innocent until proven guilty (not that most act like this) it must be said, a lot of invetigation has been done already. It makes sense why Cal Foote was already available. The best hockey, fir me is NOT NHL, buy the WJC touurnament. Very clear and articulate presentation. The most troubling thing for me is the attempt by Hockey Canada to bury it. Immoral and ethically challenged.
Just a note: settling a case is not always just "paying it off to make it disappear". As a large organization/corporation, you might settle a case if you think the litigation is too expensive, if you think you are going to (rightly or wrongly) be hit with negative headlines for years as the litigation drags out, or if you think (again, rightly or wrongly) a jury is going to be more sympathetic to an individual compared to a faceless entity.
This is not a statement on whether I think Hockey Canada handled it right or wrong, just giving you more context about settlements.

The effort and simple acknowledgement is appreciated, even if there isn't more substance until charges are formally filed and made public.
I understand that all teams were advised to tell the media that any questions regarding the Hockey Canada investigation should be directed at the league
So far no one from the league office said anything but someone will have to say something and I know that this is going to be talked about during the All-star break

Trey – absolute tip of the cap to you for actually having the courage to cover these serious allegations. It’s maddening that the Devils and Fitz have not had a press conference to discuss the timeline of these developments, because none of it makes sense. Did Fitz know this was about to happen when he held a presser less than 24 hours before McLeod took a leave of absence? Questions about the timeline need to be answered. It’s a bad look for the devils and makes it feel like they’re trying to sweep these allegations under the rug.
There were 8 in that room, who are the other three? At the very least they witnessed the assault and didn’t try to help the victim in any way, and didn’t come forward to police…why do they get to stay anonymous? Even if they didn’t physically participate, they should be outed too…yeah I’m petty but they weren’t innocent and should have consequences too
So it has now come out that the guys have a video of the girl agreeing to have sex with all 5 of them. She got $3 million from hockey Canada as a settlement, pretty good payday for 1 night of work. 😊

This whole thing has been mishandled from day one. The fact that it took this long to reach this point js shameful by Hockey Canada and the London ON police. The act itself assuming what happened is as described is horrific and those responsible to deserve whats going to happen. While the hockey side is the less important side im still concerned that the Devils either didnt know of potential involvement or didnt want to know. McLeod has been on the team and thats one thing but signing Foote seems Ill advised even with the potential of him being involved. As of now the teams and whatnot cant say anything because the legal process is still evolving and no one has been charged yet.
For where they go from here… they will remain on leaves and since both are on 1 year deals they will expire and go away. If charges are filed the Devs could waive them for purposes of contract termination… and then the legal process can play out.

UnTrusted Entities Who Tried to Cover This Up: London Police, Hockey Canada, Sport Canada, NHL, NHL Clubs, NIKE, hfboards (cover up for NHL)
Ottawa, Flyers, and Tampa knew and tried to ship their guys out. Ottawa and Tampa got lucky. Flyers did not. No takers on Hart this summer because other owners knew as well, which makes them illegal to know inside criminal information and not acting on it. This puts Devils in a funny spot, either outright dumb, or they had a deal behind the scenes to bunch up bad guys together as this looks bad already anyway.
All these problems simply due to trying to hide things. 21 cases already for HC. Why not just throw every guy from day 1 under the bus and be done with this. NHL should have suspended them in 2018 and allow them to return if this clears out.
If I was Canada I would create an investigative commission and punish all above if found guilty. I would never give this case to London Police. Every payment between these parties should be investigated, to find out how they worked together to hide this.
I sincerely believe the cover up was the bigger crime than the original. Also, the girl is not 100% innocent either.

I just read the article with video footage where the "victim" said it was consensual and she was OK with it but felt bad about it afterwards. Sound familiar?
A number of comments indicate they all guilty in the court of public opinion. Whatever the outcome of subsequent proceedings, the best they can hope for is to be recognized as five guilty people who got away with something. At worst, they will be made an example of and treated harsher than any “normal” person would be. A sad outcome for all concerned.
