Could the Canes choose to buyout KK’s contract?

Apparently, there is a window to buy it out for a 1/3 of its value until he turns 25.

That means we have until 2026(?)

Do you think they’ll consider it, or do you think he’ll turn it around.

I love the guy, but it’s 4.8m/yr

Edit: This is not advocating anything… This is just a post to kill time until the break.

If we were to buyout a guy 1.5 years into an 8 year contract that we gave him because of a tough couple months, we deserve to move back to Hartford.

  2. You guys realize that Staal is retiring at some point in the next 4 years… probably less if we win a cup. KK is literally able to step into his shoes as a 3C worst case.

Why are we fueling Canadien hit pieces?

The obsession these guys have with him is insane, on Reddit, on twitter, their fans and beat guys are just enamored with this kid.

Despite his low point production I think he has actually been decent and pretty unlucky to not have more points.

I expect him to definitely grow more and think a buyout that goes against the cap for 12 years is kind of comical.

Some other random examples of people in KKs contract bracket (and their production):

    Victor Oloffson $4.75m age 27 (4G-8A–12P in 33 GP)

    Josh Anderson $5.5m age 29 (7-6–13 in 45)

    JG Pageau $5m age 30 (6-14–20 in 49)

    Kevin LeBanc $4.75m age 32 (2-5–7 in 32)

    Michael Bunting $4.75 age 27 (10-21–31 in 47)

    Ross Colton $4m age 26 (10-16–26 in 47)

    Jesperi Kotkaniemi $4.8m age 23 (9-9–18 in 48)

He’s having a rough season no doubt but nothing about doing this research says to me we should buy him out. I’d definitely hoped he would be producing more than he has thus far, but he’s young still. The cap should be going up quite a bit the next 3 or 4 seasons, so even if he never gets much better and just maybe gets a little more consistent his contract should be fine for a middle 6 maybe 3rd or 4th line center. Should being the key word here.

His contract isn’t that bit of a problem and he’s gonna be a great 3C once Staal retires. Chill out with the hate towards him. He clearly has potential as we’ve seen and the contract will be a good value in the end.

When this kid hits a lot of folks are gonna look foolish.
