Gibson got one vote for best goalie, Dostal got one vote for most underrated player,
Zegras got the honor of the most overrated player with 12.87% of the vote:
> “A lot of hype around him, in terms of some of the cool goals and plays that he’s made,” one said. “I feel like that doesn’t translate to an everyday type of (player). He was on the cover of the NHL (game). There was a lot of hype, I’d say.
> “Nothing against the guy. I just think that got hyped a lot instead of the play, consistently, night-in, night-out on the ice.”
Zegras and Gudas also both got 1.36% of the vote for player whose face you most want to punch. Vatrano got 1 vote for this category too.
Anaheim got 1 vote for best road city to play in and 1.37% of the vote for Best Jersey with special note that the Ducks alternate jersey got at least 6 shout outs.

The hype with Zegras was that he was making plays/goals that are highlight reel, sportscenter top 10, tik tok, etc. It was easy for the league to juice the kid and try to make him one of the faces of the league.
Who are the top nhlers today? And how many of them are american? The problem with Matthews is that his team is in Toronto. The average viewer (unless they pirate) are going to miss more than half his games and the league doesnt want to only market Canadian players to a US audience.
This was also before Jack Hughes started putting together his game and staying healthy. And Patrick Kane was already on the decline.
Do I think everyone over valued his potential? Perhaps, but he still has another season or two to show us if there is indeed another echelon he can reach. If he plateaus and becomes a 70-75 point player, that’s still a valuable player. just not all star/lead you through the playoffs/number 1 option type of guy.
