  2. Damn, seems like an overpay but hopefully that means Mony gets a haul.

  3. This is GREAT for the Habs. This means that Monahan is now the best center available and the bidding war can start early. Hughes now has a lot more control over the offers he gets, since teams can’t threaten to go for Lindholm instead.

  4. BubbleGumPlant

Rumor has it that Gorton is hitting up every single Bureau en Gros in the city and clearing out their bubble wrap.

  5. if Kuz finds his way back to his peak form this could be a hell of a trade for the Flames

… not sure who those other prospects are, but Kuz+1st is a pretty nice bar to set for a C coming up to the deadline!

  6. astonedgecko

Thank you to the Flames. First, for Monahan himself. Second, for a 1st round for taking him. Third, for creating a bidding war for him now that the top center available is gone with an entire month before the deadline. Also, setting his price even higher than it already was.

  7. Our return need to at least be on par with this… which is a lot. Monahan is better this season and only his recent injury woes can put a dent in his value. But his contract cost might offset this so… Please don’t injure yourself Monny!

Want Jon Tavares but also want to save 9 million dollars??

    Take Monahan for a spin

Maybe the Flames will use that 1st round pick to get back Monahan /s

i could see us trading him to the kings for alex turcotte

The only thing lindholm has better than monahan is his history with injuries (or lack thereof). Now, we can have something similar, depending on who will be the highest bidder.

  12. SnooDogs9048

Soooooo, do we bench him before he got injured?

  13. WintertimeLivingEasy

Kent should move Monahan sooner rather than later, Henrique is still available, and I don’t think many team will be willing to trade that much for a rental.

So who is the top-prospect we can expect alongside a 1st round in a deal for Monahan if we make a trade with the following teams:

    – Boston – Lysell
    – Colorado – Ritchie
    – New York Rangers – Kakko, LaFreniere, Perrault, Othmann
    – Florida – Samoskevich
    – Toronto – Nobody. All trash.
    – Dallas – Stankoven, Johnston, Bourque, Bischel
    – Carolina – Nadeau
    – Winnipeg – Barlow, McGroarty, Lucius
    – Edmonton – Holloway, Bourgault, Broberg
    – New Jersey – Holtz,
    – Tampa Bay – Howard
    – St Louis – Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Bolduc
    – Vegas – Brisson

I look at this list and I think Calum Ritchie makes a lot of sense. Howard would too, but TB doesn’t have a 1st until 2026. Perrault is small, but super dynamic. Barlow is interesting but a LW. Bourgault is not tipping the needle for me. Snuggerud would be great but don’t think STL will be trading him. Bourque is interesting but small.

Also means that Calgary is heading into a rebuild and we have their 1st

  16. Highly doubt it. It’s not gonna be a haul like Lindholm because there is no reason for teams to believe he can keep that play up long term.

Lindholm is a strong top 6 center and winger. Monahan on any cup contender is middle 6 center or winger at best.

Even if he is the best center at the deadline at a cheap cap hit none of the teams needing him at this point will be desperate enough to pay such a high price for a player they could find a decent alternative for at bit higher cap hit.

Best case scenario we get a bottom of the first round draft pick and a decent prospect or two, but I wouldn’t expect the kind of haul Calgary just got considering Lindholms resume is far better.

I would’ve been happy with this return for Monny

  18. Habsfan_1984

This is an insane return for a rental. With Monahans low cap and us potentially retaining we should make out very well in trading him. The first is nice but I’d much rather take a very good prospect instead. Dallas has some very nice prospects I would love to see us make a deal with them.

Vancouver might have overpaid a bit, but they are ready to go for it this season and they were really missing a 2nd C. It will be very interesting to see how they will deal with their contracts for next season.

They will have 36M$ to sign Pettersson, Lindholm, Blueger, Laferty, Joshua, Hronek, and more.

  20. banyanoak

A guy who scored 39 goals last year, a solid prospect, an ok prospect, a late 1st and a conditional 4th. If we get a remotely similar package for Monahan, that could really accelerate the rebuild.

  21. The devil is in the details.

Kuzmenko has fallen off a cliff since last year, is paid more than Lindholm for 1 more year, and is 27. Also Vancouver was up against the cap using most of their LTIR cap relief.

So this is 2 deals in 1. There’s the straight Lindholm part, and then the Kuzmenko cap dump part, for which Vancouver might have had to add Jurmo to get Calgary to take the contract.

I’m assuming the 4th rounder is if Vancouver extends Lindholm or a top 10 protection and compensation if the 1st delayed to the following year. Standard conditions.

So what I’m seeing is Lindholm for a 1st and Brzustewicz.

It’s in the normal range. We got a 1st, a 5th, Heineman and Pitlick for Toffoli. A 1st, 5th and Smilanic for Chiarot.

A protected 1st + prospect is like the base price for rentals nowadays. Throw in some cap dumps and you maybe have a late rounder on top.

  22. If you can’t get a 1st and a top prospect, you might as well sign him

  23. JacquesEvans

I do expect a 1st and a decent prospect. Anything less is a lost opportunity and imo a fail. Obviously there’s exceptions like if it’s a really good prospect à la Dach… bring me the Stankoven
