Was McDavid ranked too high on TSN’s Top 25 Players list?

Connor McDavid slotted in at No. 2 behind Nathan MacKinnon on TSN’s Top 25 Players list, the first time in seven years the Oilers superstar hasn’t taken top spot. With players like Nikita Kucherov and Auston Matthews having huge seasons, was McDavid ranked too high on the list? That’s Hockey debates.

  1. Top 25 is not important at this point…McDavid and the Oilers are building a run. Perry looked like he's been there all season.

  2. Dont know who the guy on the right is…but TSN human resources really dropped the ball on that hiring. Smh.

  3. McDavid hasn’t been the best player this year, probably isn’t second either But having him at 6 is straight up blasphemy

  4. McDavid is now doing all of the other things you look for in a great player and he is the biggest reason for the better team play after the coaching staff and Skinner is #2 reason

  5. Just wanna say, Middle of November McDavid had 1 point and 71 place in points now he is tied for 4th in points.

  6. If its on this season alone, he should be #3 maybe even 4 or 5 if you're counting defenseman. Id take makar over how McDavid played.

  7. McDavid was injured in the beginning of the season. Straight up offense, no one else can meet him but he's been criticized so much about his defensive play he is adapting his game yet again. He is dead set on winning the cup as is Draisaitl and the entire team. Just accept that the only player in the league that comes closest to him is his team mate, Draisaitl. Both of them have adapted their games in the drive to bring the Cup back to Edmonton again.

  8. Guys – litterally you said before Winter Classic that he is injured and overcoming that is unreal. Would like to mention as well that 97 has been 10 games injured and 6 games in hand to MacKinnon. 16 games less played, 6 in hand and chasing for around 20 points does make your case ranking him down…Clowns.

  9. wow this guy is actually a moron, acusing mcdavid of taking the first 12-15 games off when he was clearly injured, even missed games before the heritage classic. If you wanna blame him for playing through an injury sure, but even McDavid at 50% is better than half the players in the league. Absolutely ridiculous to question his consistency or effort in the first chunk of the season

  10. Its almost impossible to watch these morons ! Say anything to get airtime ! Ya hes only won 23/26 doing anything to win games

  11. This video pisses me off, noted I am an Oilers fan so bias is very much there. But the argument of Connor McDavid is not playing up to his standard shouldn’t be a factor, this is a year by year ranking. This means forget previous years where are they in the league right now. Plus the argument of he has become way better defensively, but that isn’t what he was on the for list last year also falls into the same idea of comparing players to their previous seasons. And at the midway point of last year Connor was undisputedly number 1 in the league on points yet some had Matthews above him due to his defensive ability. So I don’t doubt number 2 is high. But the arguments for taking him out of that spot are the same arguments used to put other players ahead of him in previous years. If this video was more about look at Kucherov’s outstanding season I could get behind it, but it is just diminishing Connor’s game to a point that I find harmful to the NHL in general. Market your star guys give praise to them when they are doing great. Don’t make a pointed argument that causes people to dislike a player without wanting to beat them. One of the main reasons why fans want to see the Oilers lose is to have their guys beat the former best in the world one on one. This does the opposite

  12. Corrado brings nuanced points and in depth analysis and says he doesn't want to print stat sheets. Then Hayes proceeds to print the stats sheets and not provide any in depth analysis. Lol

  13. I agree with the guy at the right. Connor McDavid is soooo overrated that people automatically wanna give him #1 on an impulse. But the truth is he was NOT very good at the start of the season. That slow start absolutely should count for something. I have no idea what Frankie Corrado was thinking giving McDavid #1. Absolutely ridiculous!!! Consistency matters.

  14. I wish you ranked him lower clowns! He’s only after one title and that’s the Stanley Cup Champ!

  15. Is he the best in the world – arguably He is but its closer than some would think . Mcdavid , mack ( close second ) , makar , kuch ,

  16. Every year, Connor just shows he’ll play the hockey people say he can’t.

In 2020 he won the Hart being the only to get 100 in the shortened season, then in 2021 he proved he could maintain that for a full 80 games facing a normal schedule. Then in 2022 he proved the assist-merchant claims wrong by scoring 64 goals. This year he’s proving he can play shutdown defence like a 2010s Crosby

  17. Saying he took the first 12 games off and saying he was largely responsible? Dude his one of 21 players …. the team sucked sure, he was sick, anyone who watches him knows this. Only caring purely on offensive stats is a Joke, if thats the case why are the goalies at all in the list they dont score any goals? What a joke of a comment.

  18. 100% a legacy vote, if it were Sebastian Aho currently having the season McDavid is having, he would not be considered #1, but because we know McDavid has been #1 for so long previously, we cannot take that bias out of our minds so many often wanna slot him in as #1 again, even when he doesn't deserve it. 100% the #1 player overall this season so far should be Kucherov, he's playing on a aging hurt team and still produces like no winger in the league right now. The gap between Kucherov and the next best winger is vastly larger than the gap between the #1 centerman and #2 centerman. Kucherov is peaking on what a human can do on right wing, and if I were to start a team draft this year for only this year, I'd take 2024 Kucherov over 2024 McDavid, because even if someone else took McDaivd, I'd simply respond with Mackinnon on my next pick, and thus I'd be winning in a 'draft sense'.
