I’m a lifelong flames fan and I really think Vancouver will love Lindholm this season and I expect he’ll fit in and play really well to close out the year but I think any team that gives him big money long term is jumping on a landmine. The last year and a half have really showed that he’s completely different when he’s actually engaged and bought in but that means he really checks out at times and he is definitely not capable of being the one who drives the offense for his line. Those things don’t make him a player you wouldn’t want to have by any means but make it really difficult to stomach paying him big money for a long time. He’s also definitely looking to cash in as much as possible because he over performed by a lot on his last deal.
We traded Kuzy (don't get me wrong I loved how he became a cult classic in his short time here. I miss that smile already) but he didn't show up, doesn't look like he fit Tocc's coaching style so the writing was kind of on the wall with him after he was scratched multiple times. He did improve but it was sort of too little, too late.
People saying Brzustewicz is overachieving, i'm still out on that, not exactly sure. An overager in the O, but he does look good. Did they sell high? Possibly.
Jurmo, I don't know much about him but… We traded 2 defense prospects. So there's that.
People also say that after the 20th pick in the 1st round, the potential payoff drops sharply. With that in mind, I think it might have been a good deal.
The 4th turning into a 3rd if they make the WCF, not bad at all.
Feels like we got Lindholm for a low first. Keeping Lekks, Willy, Hogs, Podz… Huge. That was a massive W.
And for the people saying we lost a bit with losing Brzustewicz, we still have Mynio who, before he was drafted, was +50 on a STACKED Seattle defense roster. AND… Don't forget Kirill Kudryavtsev. He's lighting it up with the Soo.
EDIT: We now have Marianas Trench depth down the middle with centremen. Petey, Millsy, Lindholm, Suter, Blueger… That is faceoff-stacking depth right there. Question is, where does Aman go? Is he next on the block for a pick? Who knows.
An opened winger slot could see someone like Podkolzin brought up as well. Podz has been slaying in Abby. He's going through a renaissance with how his season started with a concussion. He's putting in the work down there.
The capspace gained to re-sign Petey, Hronek, potentially Zadorov too, and even Lindholm… Massive. This was a 4D Chess play.
I hated to see Kuzy go, but we needed it. This says… "Win Now."
And I hope the Canucks do. We're long overdue.
