I'm happy for Monaghan. He proved himself to be a pro over his time here in MTL. I'm hopeful the later first round pick can be paired with another pick to bring in another young nhl player who could make a difference in the years to come.

In my opinion, this draft is better then last year's. This is a deep draft with some very good prospects. Anywhere in the top 10 and your getting a good prospect. And I would pick defense if they ignore some of the studs that are in this draft.

A win for the Habs……are you kidding me? A late first rounder that may not play until 3-4 years or even never play in the NHL…. What a joke? I am very happy with the rebuild so far, but enough of staking picks, 23 picks now? We need players not picks !!!! Are you telling me that waiting a few more weeks before trading Monahan wouldn’t get us a top tier prospect??? I am of course, very disappointed in this trade.
McCabb, a great draft specialist, looked at the top 10 players and top 3 players drafted will be offensive players and then there are 6-7 top notch Dmen. Montreal is sure to get another solid player in the 2024 draft. I would sacrifice our first round and solid Dprospect to get Damidov to play on the top line as a winger.
This looks like a good move for both teams. Jets get their centre depth shored up (a bit) and Montreal gets a lot more for Monahan than they probably thought they could get a year ago.

Habs return is way better than the Flames. Flames took a bad contract and received 2 players who won’t go higher than the AHL. Their 1st round pick will be very late, possibly 30+. In comparison, habs get to pick 10-15 picks earlier than the Jets without the baggage add-ons.
What I predict is theyl get another 1st possibly for Savard and trade that one and Winnipegs maybe even a dman for a good forward

Im happy with the Monahan trade. We got 2 first rounders and 74 games 52 points out of him. We gave up future considerations. Thats insane value for 0. Great move by the Habs. And who says the Jets dont collapse like last year when they went from top 5 to no playoffs? Or LA this year?

To me that looks like the best trade of all time if those guys become NHL players.
Soo we now have 2 1st round picks thanks to Monaghan. He is a free agent at the end of this year so what if Montreal re-signed him and we trade him again at next year’s deadline. That would be unprecedented I think. Heck, why not do that every year until he turns 35. We could stock the cupboard with 1st rounders.

Jets play alot of terrible teams in their next 10 games stretch. If they somehow manage to lose some ground in the standings during that then we can start getting "excited".
At what point does the rebuild end? Or does it never end? How fans haven’t figured out that a “rebuild” is nothing more than a ploy for a team keep fans interested in a shitty team is beyond me. Habs need to see themselves as the Yankees see themselves (love them or hate them). There’s no time to rebuild, only time to win championships. Anything less is a failure.
