Last night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens was memorable for all of the wrong reasons. The New Jersey Devils ended up losing 3-2, but Lindy Ruff’s controversial postgame comments is what made the night even worse. He decided to bench Alexander Holtz despite him scoring the game-tying goal in the third period. It’s been a big debate all season long regarding Holtz’s little ice time.

I think Lindy is right. The whole season those weird passes have been a big problem but as a coach you have to thread everybody the same way. Bench both Hughes brothers as well then. Same with Hamilton and everybody Who does that often. Problem is real and he have to adress it but He have to have balls to do it to everybody
Tensions run high. What Lindy said wasn’t nice, but I wouldn’t dwell. The question from the reporter will likely make him question his decision about punishing Holtz and that is what matters.
I am fine with Lindy's explanation but he disciplined Holtz before he scored his PP goal. He was given 2 shifts after. Give the kid an opportunity to redeem himself. He should've been out there when the goalie was pulled. Bastian does little to nothing night in and night out and gets 14 minutes of ice time a game and is never disciplined. Just be consistent.

Holtz is a true sniper and he needs a true coach that lets him improve his ice time and has more faith in him.
it’s over they don’t play full 60 every game. and play unserious to bad teams. playoffs is dismissed this year these r points they can’t give up no matter whose in the lineup
There’s more to this Holtz situation than we’re aware. Perhaps it’s personal? Maybe Lindy doesn’t like his work ethic or effort in practice?
Was at this game and you could see right from the start that the Canadians came to play. Late starts, not winning battles, not being aggressive enough. Sounds more like a coaching issue. Give Greene 8-10 games to see what he can do.
If you look at the turnover leaders in the NHL, the leaders are the top players. You have to take chancse to score. It backfires a couple of times a game. That's where the other players on the team have to step up.
Lindy is a good coach. The fact that this young injury riddled team is still in the hunt speaks volumes about the coaching. He was just venting after a tough loss.
It's not holtz offence it's his defence, he has no defence positioning intelligence, thats why Zeterland was picked over him last year.

Holtz is legit illiterate in the defensive end…there is a reason ruff is a coach and you guys are reporters…it’s the little things holtz doesn’t do physically and on the defensive end. You can score 10 goals a game if the team isn’t committed to ZERO a shutout then you won’t win.
Smith, Geertsen, Wood. Mistake after mistake after mistake earned them more ice time.

I perfectly understood Lindy's point and didn't cry sbout because he said something a tad bit harsh and true. He was being benched for the bad play he made earlier in the game not the game tying goal that he scored. If you were watching the game you would have known that
I defended Ruff for a while, but after last night I agree he needs to GO, he benches Holtz for a mistake, but gives Luke Hughes 28 min when he makes bad turnovers night after night…

We never replaced Graves & Severson both very good defenders with lots of time and experience in the league Hughes and Nemec don’t have enough time in the big league yet to have there game’s developed.

Luke is a defenseman and could focus on several areas not his shot but ya always funny to hear a guy who can’t hold a stick say somebody needs work on their shot
Gotta agree, unacceptable for Lindy to not only treat Holtz the way he did, but also Novo, who asked a perfectly acceptable question. Have tried to like Lindy this season, but enough is enough, we need a new coach, especially with how this season is shaping out
What a consumate professional Lindy Ruff is. Throwing a player under the bus to the media. Real class act. Closing in on being the 2nd worst coach (most losses) in NHL history is getting to him. He needs to apologize to that reporter and to Holtz publicly.
Ruff has officially lost the locker room…..you don't publicly embarrass your players to the media… if a player called out another team member, I would call them a cancer but cancer is fast and aggressive so we can't use that for Lindy. Whatever you call him, he has got to go. Fitz let the wrong coach go….we miss you Andrew Brunette!
Brendan Smith made bone head play after bone head play and yet he still gets a ton of ice time. So please that is a lame excuse for not playing Holtz. Nemec was a -3 in the game. Holtz was 0. The only player who gets less ice time for mistakes is Holtz.
