Maybe another depth defenseman fitting our available cap space is the smarter thing to do. July 1 free agency looks like a better shot for Tanev when it seems like it is too rich for the Canucks at this point in time.
Lot of people are worried we gave up too much for Lindholm, but remember, Kuzmenko has one more year at 5.5M. Freeing up that much salary cap space for next year probably cost the Nucks two assets alone. And it makes the deal, whether they get to the Cup or not, a massive win.
I have been hoping that the Canucks would not bring in Tanev, not because I do not like the player, but because he is 1) too pricey to bring in; 2) too easily injured because of the style he plays and would play if he re-joins this team, and 3) his declining speed does not fit well with the style this team wants and needs to play. I do think the team needs to try and add a depth D-man still, but please do not trade with Calgary again and do not bring in Tanev…

Bad trade long term, but short term is good. But if the nuckleheads don’t go far in the playoffs, then Lindholm doesn’t sign, this STINKS!
