With this trade now done, time to see what can the Habs get for Jake Allen. Makes more sense at this time to trade Allen than David Savard. The young defencemen with the Habs still need the veteran guidance for now.
I am positive Monahan had a hand in this decision. There is no way HUGO could not have gotten an NHL ready or close to ready prospect instead of another draft pick – a late first rounder who may or may not ever play in the NHL. I am disappointed……
I'm gonna miss Monahan but it was the right call. I wish him the best in Winnipeg and I'll be cheering for them to win the cup! I'm happy with the 1st round pick. Here's to a proper rebuild.
All I want to follow up with is that please Don't trade Josh Anderson.. give him time to play.and I will guarantee he will be grouving.josh is very.fast strong and smart 🤓🤓🤓🤓
I disagree. Yea Monahan numbers are as good or better but he’s a risk… so many injuries. They done well imo… 2 first round picks for this guy! He May have one more year left and not play again! His hips are gone! Great move for us. Love him but we got good value! Great job Hughes 🎉
We shouldn't be greedy regards to the Monahan trade…getting 2 x 1st round picks for absolutely nothing…ty Calgary. However, as a greedy fan, it's tough not to be a tad disappointed in the return especially considering what Lindholm got Calgary. Anyways, as great as it sounds to have more picks esp 1st round picks…Hughes realizes unless he wins the lottery and gets a generational or at the bare minimum, an elite can't miss prospect, he cannot continue drafting players who if they make it to the NHL, will still take years to get there and years to grow physically, and years to gain NHL experience. He knows he needs to try to speed things up…BUT, do you trade your Top10, Top 5 pick in 2024 or 2025 (ty Calgary) to get a Zegras or a Kakko, because that 1st round pick in the 20-25 overall spot will not do it. I know Hughes wants to make that BIGTIME splash trade but I don't think there are any takers YET. In the meantime, look for Hughes to pull off his usual 3team trade in which we are the retainer of $$$ or yet another vet expiring contract w/a sweetener OR use the 2nd of our 1st round picks, possibly with Dman prospect to get another Dach/Newhook player. I'm sure Hughes would still like to move out some contracts…like Allen, Armia, Gallagher…and as much as he says he is not looking to trade Savard, I do not believe him…Hughes is in no rush to do it, but he needs to redistribute his prospect pool especially with our abundance of Dmen depth to try to add elite scoring and size/physicality on the wings. And in my view, add another top end Center…we cannot afford to go into another season of Suzuki, Dach and if either of them gets injured, go into another 2022-23 like season of patching holes here and there (Beck is a wildcard add next season…he too will need time but he could be our 2-way future Selke Bergeron type Center…emphasize, COULD BE).
I''m not really that happy about this trade. Sure, in a vacuum, getting a first round pick looks good, but it's what that trade implies that doesn't sit well with me. Unless Winnipeg takes a major nose dive, that pick isn't going to be that great. So what we're looking at in terms of a player is more like a 2nd line forward or 2nd pairing defenseman that's going to be NHL ready in 2-3 years at best. So what that implies, especially with the responses that Kent Hughes has been giving in the media, is that he's willing to extend the rebuilt for at least another 2-3 years. So, what exactly is to motivate me to watch any of the remaining 32 games and all of next year? Suzuki and Caufield can't do it all. Remember how it looked last year without Monahan? And the year before that? Yeah, it's going to look like that. So, say good bye to "meaningful" games.
The most valuable trade for the habs mightve been the lindholm trade. We got a late first for monahan but cgy getting rid of their best player is prob gonna lead to them being very bad, and we have their 1st pick 2025.
Sean thanks for everything. The hardworking getting healthy. Thd leadership and drive that teaches the younger players how to be professionals. Thanks to habs management for the idea of the trade to bring him in to help out the team and find him another place to play and succeed. Yet again helping Habs out for the future. Great all around deals.

Cellar for Celi. It is nice seeing Canadian teams get better, except for the Laughs!

I agree I thought we’d get more for him.
We realistically can drop down to the 4th place , we’re only 6 points up and if Kent can trade 1-2 more vets it would help alot
Oh great, more draft picks. And the 27th to the 32nd to boot. More mediocre players to add to a mediocre team .

Short time pain for long time gain! (Having said that, I'll miss seeing Monahan in a Habs' uniform!!)
So what is the big deal. Canadiens got nothing in return.
Love the guy, sad to see him go and hopefully we can re-sign him in the offseason. Time to retire his number, the guy got us 2 first round picks.
Lookout for the jets this season

So what happens next? They only have 2 centremen now
So is our center core suzuki, evans, condotta rn? Oof, we need newhook back asap.

I wonder how well he is defensively this season, i get its probably not his biggest strength but i havent seen him play for a while now
Winnipegs 1st round pick is next to last…so not really a huge deal for WPG to give up.
Tales from the 1st round nothing
Its fair to say, mtl fans will cheers for Winnipeg this spring!
Canadiens can easily finish bottom 3.
Who will montreal draft then?
What is the condition in the "conditional " 2025 1st pick from Calgary?

Montreal being my favourite team and Winnipeg being my favourite in the west , great move

This is going to hurt.

The gift that keeps on giving. What a great job by GM Hughes. Now sign him in the offseason and do it again.
But we got your second round pick from the p l d So basically It's even
Good stuff Drew …background looks swell #classy 😊
Ottawa resurgence …looks good 👍 interesting team in Capitol
We will probly be using 2 of our first rounder and 2 prospect to get a top 6 player.

Dude, Rasmus was never the second line centre.
