RICK TOCCHET SPEAKS ON PHIL KESSEL… POTENTIAL CANUCKS SIGNING? Vancouver News & Trade Rumours

Like it or not agree or disagree this is a topic that is there so today we’re heading over to the NHL free agency pool and talking about a guy who is still unsigned at the time of recording this audio you know him from the title you know him from the thumbnail today we’re

Talking about the hot dog memer himself Phil the thrill kessle and the idea as to where he’s going to go next now last time we had talked about Phil kessle it was in a video going over how there was mutual interest between the Vancouver Canucks and kessle himself this was an

Interesting conversation because not only are Patrick Alvine and Jim Rutherford of course familiar with Phil kessle and his overall profile I mean he won two Stanley Cups with them for crying out loud but there was an apparent interest from kessle to maybe come over to Vancouver that was sparked

Between the link that he has with head coach Rick toet they were together with the Arizona Coyotes it’s apparent that tessle liked being coached by Rick toet and considering the fact that a lot of kessell’s latery year production came with toet as the guy Manning the bench

You could very well understand why he is in a position to Value this coach kessle last season had 36 points in 82 games played he had been a pretty solid player up until that point getting 40 50 point Seasons with the Arizona Coyotes and then of course being at the 8090 Point

Pace that he was at with Pittsburgh but fil the thrill with his three Stanley Cups and his current Iron Man streak at 36 years old is indeed still a free agent and if you wanted to go over the streak and the status of everything it’s still going it’s technically still

Active because the streak only applies to games in which the player is eligible to play for sure while the NHL season is already halfway over Phil kessle has been unsigned for the entire year so none of the games that could have been played in the NHL this season were

Eligible to be played for kessle so he technically is still the Iron Man if he signs on with the team tomorrow then he’ll need to play the remainder of those teams games in order to extend that streak but it’s already been put on record that he doesn’t really care too

Much about the streak continuing if it means he’ll get a job in the NHL so if he does sign with some team and they scratch him right away it’s fine he’s okay with it he’s still the number one Iron Man in NHL history but the reason we’re making this video

Talking about kessle once more is because of an article published earlier yesterday by Luke Fox take a look at this piece on sportsnet.ca there’s value in Phil free agent kessle still aiming to sign this season the article opens up by talking about how Zach periz recently signed a modest half-year deal with the

Colorado Avalanche last week periz wasn’t alone when it comes to aging NHL star still looking to get off the unemployment line though because Phil kessle on the market since July 1st is still skating hard and staying in shape with the hopes of latching onto a team before the March 8th deadline for

Playoff eligibility kessle has been in discussions with a few teams but to the surprise of his supporters no one has snatched up the 36-year-old Winger this is where we get into the commentary side of things he had Clayton Keller Arizona Coyote’s teammate saying this that he’s super shocked I know that kessle has

Been working out in skating and hoping for a job here soon he’s just an unbelievable teammate one of the best guys that I’ve played with just in terms of the locker room and how he treats people he’s always in a good mood I’m really hoping that he can get a job here

Soon meanwhile you had yourselves Kastle himself saying this I want to play I have the desire I love the game still obviously I don’t feel old or anything like that so you know I enjoy playing every game and I’m looking forward to the next year wherever I’m at and continuing my

Career meanwhile when it comes to the Vancouver Canucks angle this is what Rick talking went out there and said a coach who has worked closely with kessle in both Pittsburgh and Arizona and keeps in touch he too is surprised that kessle is still lingering on the market there’s

Value in Phil toet said I think he can still play 100% now here’s the thing when it comes to the idea of kessle and the Vancouver Canucks because you know the majority of my fan base here is vancouver-based so we did talk about this earlier right we

Made the video a few months ago saying hey this could be a thing there’s mutual interest and there were a lot of comments that were split but maybe not for the reasons that we’re having now because a lot of people who were saying yeah I want to see kessle on the

Vancouver KX I’ll be honest most of us were kind of just meing around not because we thought that kessle was going to be like a superstar 90 point player with Vancouver but just because it’d be funny to see the guy who was a former Toronto belief stud who faced the

Scrutiny of the media endlessly who eventually went to Pittsburgh and shoved it all in the Toronto media’s face by winning two Stanley Cups and taking the cup to Toronto and then you had Vegas where he won another Stanley Cup and now he’s a free agent he’s 36 years old he’s

The Iron Man nobody really gives kessle a hard time anymore we would have wanted to see that Meme head over to Vancouver and then there were a lot of other comments saying no I don’t want this like why would we need to sign a 36-year-old aging veteran Winger but now

We have ourselves a different conversation because if we take a look at this article that we saw on Sports and it was posted onto the ronu sub and there are some very interesting comments that go out there and respond to this idea I’m not saying it’s a good idea but

We keep talking about the lack of playoff experience this guy has three cups tet knows him well and by all accounts he’s a great guy in the room and likely at league minimum I Love Phil kessle but Rick tett was being kind the guy can’t skate we’d literally be

Signing him to sit in the Press Box speed is important to our system and there’s zero chance that Phil kessle could contribute on the ice now that’s an IDE idea that I guess you could say is applicable nowadays Phil kessle back when he was in his prime was a guy that

Could just fly by and just snap it on a dime p a goalie I don’t know if too many of the Canucks fans on the subred are like remembering this properly because I’m seeing a lot of comments saying yeah know the guy can’t skate because to that

I’m thinking wait a minute just like look at a Kastle highlight R from like 2012 the guy was flying out there but either way there is a really important idea brought up by Shadow net 97 that I thought was also applicable to this situation as well Phil kessle barely

Played in the playoffs with Vegas but Vegas players reported that he’d show up to the rank and just be himself and make people laugh and relax you need someone like that even if they’re just in literal emotional and moral support roles not saying our players can’t do

That but nothing wrong with a league minimum signing of Kastle who’s a certified champion and one hell of a player with tons of experience and this is sort of the angle I wanted to attack this Kastle conversation at as well the Vancouver conu should they sign this

Player probably won’t be putting him in the bottom six and you know changing up that third line of Dakota Joshua Teddy Bluer and Conor Garland it would be tough to convince me that Phil kessle in 2023 2024 is a better fit for a bottom six than Sam laferty you’d also have a

Hard time convincing me that kessle would be the final piece in a Vancouver conu top six to be the extra Winger on a Brock besser and JT Miller line for example I don’t think any of these situations are applicable but if Phil kessle who is a very well-liked

Well-respected and calming dude is able to be a part of this locker room he wants to be there he’s under a coach that he likes he’s under management that he likes if everything aligns to the point that he’s brought on just to be moral support even if he doesn’t play a

Single game this is a valuable ad last year in the playoffs he had four games and two assists but he still got his name on the cup and it was very apparent from a lot of the Vegas players that kessle was a hugely important part of that team’s winning culture and identity

So the entire role of what exactly it is could be for the Vancouver conects I actually kind of like it and you know I’d want to see whether or not that actually fits into the next few months here but of course if kessle does have an opportunity to sign elsewhere with a

Team that’s going to actually play him and give him meaningful minutes then we have no reason to believe that he wouldn’t consider that right like he probably doesn’t want to go purely cup chasing towards the end of his career considering that he literally won last year you could make the argument for any

Situation here for Phil kessle and if it is the Vancouver Canucks I mean I honestly wouldn’t be one to disagree maybe I’m just becoming the Boomer here maybe I want all the old guys maybe I want tanov and kessle and all these extra names that just have value behind

The name itself rather than the profile they bring on the ice especially compared to a few years ago but either way let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about Rick toet speaking out about Phil Kastle and saying that he is good to go and that he

Can still be a valuable piece article is going to be linked in the description as well as the Reddit thread but for now I hope you enjoyed this vsh 99 and Bye

We’re going over the idea of the Vancouver Canucks signing free agent Phil Kessel, and some comments made by head coach Rick Tocchet about the NHL veteran.

Could he join a line with Elias Pettersson?

  1. Was Kessel ever known for 2 way play? I remember he was an old school offensive player. Didn’t really workout and probably would have been better if he’d been in better shape. But Tocchet is a systems guy, and I don’t think, even when he was scoring points, that Kessel was a Tocchet kind of player.

  2. Chicago would be the best for Kessel however as a depth piece wouldn’t be bad for the Canucks I would play him over some guys in Abbotsford if someone gets injured in the playoffs knock ✊ on wood that doesn’t happen.

  3. Why is he unsigned and not even being courted by anyone ??? he was also linked at one time to locker room issues ( If I remember correctly) HELL NO !!!!!!!!!

  4. I wouldn't mind him as a depth piece. Hes definitely not better than what we are currently rostering though. Cup experience is a nice asset in itself.-155 career +/- is rough though.

  5. phil the thrill would be a cheap experiment. PP2? if tocc thinks he would be a good signing that's good enough for me.

  6. I love kessel but he has the same issues as kuzmenko so i dont see tochet liking him in this system that much

  7. No just no. You dont waste league minimum for a guy who wont play. Either sign him to play him or go and get frank vatrano, greenway or trenin type player.

  8. No, no, no. Dear god no. Talk about a way to ruin a locker room. A fat, lazy, defensive liability, with an over-inflated ego. Putting him on a line with Pettersson or with Miller would be like tying an anchor to their feet and throwing them overboard. No.

  9. Dooo it, it’s so dumb no one wanted a 30+ point scorer for 1 mil. He loves hockey and doesn’t rely on fitness, he’s adrenaline fueled goodness dammit !!!

  10. Nooooooooo, call up a Call up, we want somebody to hit block and get pts😊. Not phyllis who cant hit or blk maybe score Ahhhhh😂
