I don’t get why the NHL just doesn’t make every single game available on their app for a monthly subscription, free of any regional blackouts.

I guess they’d lose out on the RSN and cable deals but wouldn’t they recoup the money pretty quickly by going down this route?

  2. It’s not even true, the game will be on ABC & ESPN+. Games on ABC are not blacked out.

  3. Heard_Yal_WannaFloat

The NHL is maximizing their profit, that’s really all you have to understand. When putting all the games on their own app is more profitable it will happen.

  4. MouthNoizes

I had to get a basic cable package just to get 1 channel to be able to watch VGK games.

I use ESPN+ to watch most other games and then I CAST the STREAMS for anything else or streaming on the go

    EDIT: for discretion

I’m not a fan of piracy and think that the performer should be compensated. I was one of the very few who thought Napster was unfair to musicians in the early 2000’s. But even I think that the NHL has brought piracy upon itself with its television policies. This is some bullshit. I don’t like Gary Bettman but he’s a smart guy and they probably have some mathematical reason why they do this, but I hope their math is wrong and this destroys their television revenue. It’s the only way they will change anything.

  6. CrotchSwamp94

People wonder why the NHL isn’t as popular. You can’t even watch the fucking games half the time.

  7. Acid_Cat2

NHL: we need to grow the sport’s fan base!

Also NHL: no televised games for yoooouuuuu

  8. Dwayne402789

Every blues game in saint Louis is blacked out

  9. TheNickelGuy

ESPN+, HOME OF THE COMPLETE 30 FOR 30 COLLECTION

*but only 10% of the actual hockey games*

  10. Ryansmelly

This is fucking hilarious. Like. What the actual fuck.

  11. Kadaththeninja_

The nhl should just partner with nord vpn, at least then they can get a piece of the pirate pie

  12. ProfessionalH20

Honestly I’m just canceling all my Disney/hulu/espn. Fucking stupid ass blackouts, I have to ride the high seas like 75% of the time anyways.

  13. capsrock02

This is someone from customer service not understanding or knowing what the graphic is. The Avalanche aren’t in any of these games. This has nothing to do with the NHL.

  14. mikejc792

I don’t understand why the teams aren’t more upset about their product being essentially censored from a huge number of potential fans across the country.

  15. tombsflow

If anyone is defending blackouts they should be forced to retire because the world has passed them by.

  16. Visual_Judgment_

The thinking behind blackouts is that they want you to just go to the game right?

  17. chicknsnadwich

Literally the only benefit of being a fan of a team that’s not in your city is not having to deal with this nonsense

  18. No-Rub-5054

I live in Sweden. Can watch every game i want on viaplay. No black outs here. Seems reallycomplicated over there in america. Feel sorry for u guys.

  19. 2min4roughing

“sorry you can’t watch your teams game in your home market BUT DID YOU SEE BEIBER AT THE ALLSTAR GAME!!?? Also go fuck yourself” – the NHL probably

  20. DCDHermes

As much as I want to blame the NHL, regarding the Denver market, that’s all on Kronke. Altitude has been fighting with Comcast for almost a decade. Can’t watch the Avalanche. Can’t watch the Nuggets. Two world champion teams that the local market doesn’t have easy access to watching. Give me a streaming platform I can legally watch games on, and I would.

  21. carlylejamest

So they aren’t allowing Local avs fans watch their own team even if they pay money to get + that’s a joke. I live in Calgary and my Telus subscription already has SNP, SNO, and SNE. We should be able to watch those regional games because we already pay for the channel. So ridiculous so we basically pay for a channel that doesn’t work

  22. One of the beautiful things about the NFL app in my fire tv is that I can go into it and select the game and it will take me to the related app it’s available in like CBS, FOX, ABC, etc… why can’t the NHL app be that intuitive?

  23. Squabbles123456789

I will never again PAY to watch Hockey games as long as blackouts exist. Flat out. I will steal the broadcast 100% of the time and I don’t feel even slightly bad about it.

  24. pangaea1972

Who here remembers the hockeystreams roku app? Those were blissful days.

  25. No_Heart_1097

this literally drives me insane. like i need this explained to me by whoever put it in place personally. i live maybe 15 minutes from Little Caesar’s arena in detroit and i can’t EVER get a wings game!! WHY

  26. TheMedicatedOne

You should be able to pay for a subscription to every game your team plays. If you want to add another team? Cool, that’s another budgeted option to add to your team package. Want to watch a bunch of random games? Cool, there an option to stream 15, or 30, 45, Etc, to you team package.

  27. IShiddedMyPantaloons

The NHL deserves nothing but rampant piracy until they get their shit together and create their own streaming service that has every game available.

  28. imgoodatpooping

TV blackouts almost killed the CFL in the 80s and 90s. This is absolute foolishness on the NHLs part.

  29. scottybobotty1992

Have paid for nhl and ESPN before, found sportsurge.net, usually have all the games to stream for free. Haven’t looked back, fuck em both

  30. Bkingkong1

NHL is a joke when it comes to letting people watch hockey. THIS IS WHY THE GAME ISNT GROWING.

  31. Regional blackouts are going to kill interest in the NHL. Such a mid league

  32. squeezy102

NHL Center Ice is the biggest crock of bullshit a person can possibly buy.

Exclusive media rights deals are equally bullshit.

This shit is literally strangling hockey to death, but the big execs are too afraid to give up that sweet sweet telecom money.

  33. Grivington

Obviously you don’t get it, you see the NHL is trying to expand their fan base and promote hockey to more people so they’re blacking out games.
