This looked so bad

There was a big collision on the ice in Tuesday nights Pittsburgh Penguins vs Winnipeg Jets game where Brenden Dillon was given a match penalty for his hit to the head of Noel Acciari. That and more in today’s NHL Hockey video!

  1. Jets, Panthers and Bruins, 3 of the dirtiest teams collectively in hockey. Really wish the league had the balls to discipline this Mickey Mouse BS

  2. Looks really bad but not dirty.
I have no idea what Acciari is thinking but he smoked himself.
Dillon is not taking a good angle and timing, but Acciari is in a really strange position in a hitting zone on a play that just has no space.
No idea why he didn`t dump it straight away and why he got so extended with his head down and out, leaning forward.
Dillon is almost standing as Acciari is running head first into him.
I don`t really know how to judge this hit, but that`s a rookie mistake.

  3. Hundred percent clean hit. The guy skates into him at full speed with his head down and it's the other guys fault? Before all of you experts that saw a game once start screaming about violence and injury, I'll say "welcome to hockey".

  4. The problem was that he had contact with the head. If Dillon had bent his knees and had contact with the body, it would have been a great check instead of a possible suspension.

  5. I get that it has to be a major penalty but I hope thereā€™s no suspension. All of his motion was towards the boards and the jump was him trying to jump as close to the boards as possible and out of the way so he wouldnā€™t make contact unless the guy runs into him in the boards. The Pittsburgh player had his head down and reached forward and down at the point of contact. What else was Dillon supposed to do? If he stops and lets him skate by he gets benched

  6. Yes i agree it was a dirty hit to the head he didnt have to lead in with that angle and could have made a different decision

  7. THE HIT: Iā€™ve watched a few videos in the last 20 minutes that have talked about it. At first, I felt the same as you. ā€œIt wasnā€™t malicious and the call on the ice was right. Donā€™t think itā€™s suspension worthy.ā€ However, having seen it now about 15 times from multiple angles at many various speeds, Iā€™m second guessing the suspension worthy part a little. There is that one low angle of it from a Jets zone camera that clearly shows Dillon leaving his feet. He does leave his feet shortly after the hit, but it clearly isnā€™t from the contact. It is a follow up from his momentum. As such, he was clearly elevating his trajectory for a more aggressive impact. Because of this little detail, I wonā€™t complain or be surprised if it ends up being a 1 or 2 game suspension. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

  8. If the NHL cared about protecting the players they should show this to the NHLPA to say we believe in safety and you should not put yourself in this kind of dangerous position. Dillon could have made him a black and yellow smear if he had finished the check.
Suspension here is irrelevant – players need to protect themselves charging full speed to the blue line in traffic with your head down is dangerous in a non hitting beer league

  9. Every beer league has a guy who thinks heā€™s Gretzky and looks like Acciari does here. If youā€™ve played hockey you know that if you want to sneak across the line you had better know if someone has an angle on you.

  10. No angle or explanation will justify that hit….all head and Dillon drove himself upwards at the point of contact. After watching it in slow mo it was even worse than in real time. He deserves every game he gets on this one seeing as Acciari will be out of action even more games than Dillon in the end.

  11. No malice, unbelievableā€¦. You only say that to piss us off and generate commentsā€¦ I am too smart for that to work!

  12. Dillon gets suspended without pay until the victim he tried to ruin is cleared to come back and play. Until this kind of rule is in effect the greasy pieces of shit type players and Dillon is one, will continue to do this.

  13. The timeline looked like he didnā€™t mean to hit him that far over. I think he didnā€™t anticipate him to get in that far. Hate to see it though cause I am a Pens fan. I hope he will recover quick!

  14. I'm a Jets fan and Winnipegger, and I say it should be 3 games. Although player safety seems to be determined by the team the guy plays for and since the Jets are the child Bettman never wanted, he'll probably end up with 5.

  15. I'm not here to cheer this on but this definitely is something I cannot complain about as a Habs fan. If they are losing games then they can get a higher draft pick!

  16. As a pens fan , I thought Dillion was just trying to cut him off . At that speed itā€™s difficult to adjust to a player reaching for a puck and becoming vulnerable.

  17. Whole lot of people in here who clearly never played the game themselves.Sorry that looked like hockey to me ,unfortunate yes , but greasy I dont see it. He bent over at the waist moving fast the collision was inevitable, arm down, shoulder first ,no elbow, no grease here.

  18. Eck videos have been so trash since heā€™s tried to smash nba and nfl into his schedule.

Quality and views in the dumbs compaired to 2 seasons ago.

  19. We can't know how "purposeful" this hit was. They need to give him a 1 game suspension. If it was just a mistake, then no big deal. If it happens again, then he's got a history of punishment for injuring a player to add to the next suspension.

  20. For people trying to do mental gymnastics for Brenden Dillon: when you're actively looking to make massive hits and b-lining people down, you're gonna find what you're looking for eventually and sometimes you're going to make sole head contact. This is the way Dillon plays. It really doesn't matter if the full head contact was an accident. He was looking for it and he found it. Easy suspension.

  21. Dillon is anticipating that he will stay tight on the boards. When Accari cuts to his right to avoid the hit he creates the crossed path.

  22. Slowing down the play it doesn't looks like there was intent to injure. Dillion's shoulder appears to be low, Cookie looks like he basically skated into it at the perfect moment and he unfortunately gets injured.

  23. this is 80/20 on Acciari … no matter angle Dillon is gonna be there, he's most likely gonna get hit in the head.

  24. I went to school with Acciari. I dont think the hit is that bad because he doesn't chicken wing, but he does pick the head unintentional.

  25. Keeping your head up is not advice, itā€™s a rule if you want to stay healthyā€¦ hit could have been planned better but itā€™s not like he had time to write it up and submitted it for commentsā€¦.

  26. Dillon needs to connect with Acciari's shoulder, it's really as simple as that. His angle led him to be in front of the skater and with Acciari leaning forward, got smacked in the head. Probably not intentional, but the results speak for themselves. It was bad when all you hit is the head area.

  27. Reasons why "buckets" suck –

They aren't properly secured (look how loose the strap hangs even when strapped) nor include a chin strap for more leverage.

It has no facial protection, meaning even if bucket stays on, if you fall face flat onto the ice, you're eating ice which means bye nose, cheek bones, chin.
