Please tell me, anybody…… how are they going to make this work cap wise? Hanifin has a cap hit of 4.95M (prorated) and Tanev is at 4.5M (prorated). I smell BS! Salary retention would need to occur by the Flames but the Leaf have said they are not willing to part ways with their high end prospects (Minten & Cowan) or future draft picks. So at the end of the day if a trade is made it will come from their AHL players and or their 3rd and 4th line NHL players. No team wants that. Not going to happen!
Trade Domi and Bert for 2nd round picks, Leafs aren’t going anywhere.
Would we not have been better off re-signing Schenn? Same age as Tanev and we wouldn't have had to give up additional assets. Is Tanev leaps & bounds better?

Not buying it. This isn’t the time for Leafs to make a blockbuster trade. Treliving would totally have my respect if he shuts out the noise, has a quiet trade deadline and rebuilds in the offseason. If we continue to sell the farm, we’re screwed
Tanev is at best a third pairing old dman he is worth nothing more than some picks no where near a first and prospect or more

I think the leafs if they can sign Chris tanev and he stays in good shape and maybe we get John kklingberg off the books and maybe we get another cheap lockdown defensive guy and defence is looking a little better maybe John tarvares gets like a 7-8 mill deal and we get some more bottom six scoring

Marner for some big time D is the way to go. You don't win playoff games without building from the net out. The Leafs have it backwards.

Not sure if I believe any trades with Calgary since they are asking the moon. They want a high prospect and a 2nd. The Leaf's top prospects are a no-go with the GM and they have no 2nd to offer for a few years. Dubas depleted the draft picks with rentals the last few years.
The Leafs should be trying to unload some UFA's in any trades, for a change — otherwise they are just walking in the off season. And they need to make roster space, for a change, instead of bringing in players without a spot for them to play.

I know we need a upgrade on our D the only three to 4 guys I have liked is Reilly, McCabe Benoit and Lagesson the rest can go. But I am sick and tired of trading our picks and younger players for Rental players want our first make it a sign and trade
Puck moving right d takes pressure off goalie &forwards. McCabe like Taney. Last years trades, poor results. Keep valuable picks. Maybe Hannifan might change the equation.

Unless the Leafs really believe Bertuzzi will be more useful in a playoff scenario than he has been regular season (totally useless) I’d dump him at the deadline to recoup some assets if they are going to trade for defender(s)
He’s been a total bust at 5.5 and there may be a team that just wants to pony up a pick for a “name” Left winger

Could trade for bertuzzi domi 2nd rd pics don't touch the core four, keep marker our goalie problems never stop. Every year it's the same. Got good goalie tandem is strong but ever year it's a bust
Honestly I dont like Tanev to the leafs at all. At 34 UFA. Injury history…. Im Passing and if im going after a Defencman its either Hanafin or Parayko, as well as Seeler.
IN order to pull off a Hanafin deal youre giving up atleast Minten and a 1st but im doing it,
C'mon……this has been the case with wanting Tanev forever….. they are cash strapped and I doubt they will do anything til the off season. They are my team but they are NOT CONTENDERS.
Treliving wants Markstrom and Tanev but they don't have the picks, prospects Flames would want.. also Markstrom will only be traded unless he asks to be traded which he hasn't
The problem is that if this is still his attitude the fans want a better Team in Toronto for the playoffs they don't want a better team for the summer.
Can they get Tanev long term and Schenn as a rental wouldn't that be sweet.
