Edmonton realized early that poor coaching was holding them back. They made the change and look what happened. It brought the best out of the entire roster.
Last year was a fluke, this organization is still miles off it
You know what, that’s my bad, on the Kuzy goal I was saying that it was jacks guy who was left uncovered, but I honestly didn’t even see Meier there. *AND HOLY FUCK THAT IS MEIER’S GUY*
Never put Vitek on the ice again. I don’t care if you have to play Schmid or literally any other AHL goalie.
He lost that game. Period. It was insane that he was even in net to start the game.
Fitz, please do something. Anything. I’d love a lindy firing or goalie trade, but at this point even just a statement to the fans. I don’t care if people think it’s corny, tell us that you know what we can all see
The season feels over. I’m not giving up but I’m not going to hold onto the hope of making playoffs. Not with vanecek in net and Ruff as our coach. This totally sucks
I need a goalie change or i need the team to stop playing the same bullshit games of failed comebacks where they get no points. Every game is the same shit. I’ve never been ready to put ruff’s head on a stake but this needs to change. I’ve been watching the same shit all season. Down to the screw up before the empty netter. The results aren’t coming. Timo isn’t doing anything. Same tragedy all year.
I’m honestly not sure where all the Vanecek love came from the other night. I haven’t posted in here but have been reading the comments on and off all year and wow are some people lost. I’ve seen comments where people start making excuses for Vanecek, “well he only gave up 4 goals against the Lightning.” Or “Vanecek played a hell of a game against the Avs.” Huh? Our goaltending, minus the series against the Rangers in the playoffs last year, has been AWFUL. This has been going on for years and until they change anything, we’re going to be stuck in the same sitaution. Hughes or not. When is the last time Vanecek pitched a shutout? Does anyone remember the Devils of old? I don’t care if times have changed, you need goaltending to win in hockey. Period.
Season had so much promise that it makes these games so much more disappointing. Just feels that there is no management in this team. Guys are making the same mistakes every game and there’s at least 15-20 consecutive minutes each game where you wonder how these guys are in the nhl because they’re getting caved so badly.
You can make the injury excuse all you want but it’s guys who were on the roster opening night that have been the most disappointing. Vitek has struggled but it’s really hard to play goal when the team plays 2 and a half periods and puts up 1
Goal. Guy gets put under pressure way too fast and most goalies will look bad if they’re always playing down a goal.
The team is way too talented to look this bad in February. Can’t win in this league waiting til the 3rd period to actually play the game
This Team is so Damn Frustrating:
* put together a really good first period and give up a late period goal
* fluky goal to lose the tie and then have no offense for the second half of the second period.
* give up another goal in the third when you’re supposed to come out strong
* lose all momentum, four minute penalty kill, crowds completely out of it, we’ve all lost faith, a beauty of a shorty from a beauty of a captain
* and suddenly everyone is alive only to give up another goal
* and then claw our way back
* and all for nothing
* needed VV to save just one more of those goals and we would have been right there.
* the theme of this season minus injuries has been just a complete lack of consistency. we can’t do this win one lose one win two lose two business right now. you need to string lots of wins together.
* we win big and we can’t take that high to give us the edge in our next game out.
* and it’s so clear we have the talent! That first line was fire! Jack’s line looked so dangerous! Even our fourth line was doing good grinder fourth line work.
* it’s always something huh!
* our PK had a good game again at least!
* we’ve had so many games this season that could be labeled as season shifting wins: Avs game on Tuesday, that Vegas win, the Boston OT win…but we never seem to be able to build off those in our next set of games.
* nothing is consistent not game to game and certainly not period to period.
* next set of four games before the Stadium Series we need to take at least three wins out of it, ideally all four. Need to build something here.
* as always, love this team, no matter how much they want me to hate them. love our guys!
Sadly! This is my last post until the Stadium Series! I’m off to Iceland for a week so I won’t be around for the next four games. I’ll try to catch highlights and watch what I can but won’t be active in this sub.

This season has been killed by Vanacek, and Tom who has not realized how bad he’s sucked. Even if you don’t make a trade, stop playing him. He’s fucking unplayable. Pissing a year away is just piss poor management by Fitz.
I just don’t understand how we had three fucking months of knowing that goaltending and coaching were going to sink this season, decided to do nothing, and are now basically forced to punt a season where the GM literally told the fanbase that the “contention window is open”.
I just do not get it. At this point firing Fitz is something I’d be okay with.
Bye Playoffs
With this goaltending, you basically can’t win any 1-0, 2-1 or 3-2 games. You have to hope the other goalie doesn’t have a great game and that your offense can score 4 or more. You can claw your way into the playoffs but if you can’t win close, controlled games, how far do you expect to go?
One thing to add is that this group can be too enamored with our GM. He was named executive of the year unfairly so imo. Hes had a brutal year and made major mistakes.
Lindy just said he thought about a goalie change after the 3rd goal Vitek gave up, but Daws had a long lay off (then why didnt he start to begin with you fucking chud). Poor coaching yet again! And instead of playing tonight against a meh flames team, Daws gets to play against the Canes who we have sucked against and who is coached by a guy that makes Ruff look like the fucking muppet he is.
Vanaceck inspires zero confidence. You can see the team sag and the opponent gain confidence. That little edge is enough to win or lose games in this league. I’m not sure what can be done at this point because anything is gonna be a panic move but I think it’s over for this guy here especially after tonight. We aren’t making the playoffs unless we can go on a little tear right now when we have these games in hand and it just feels like no matter how well the rest of the team plays this guy gives up at least two weak ass goals a game.
Vanacek sucks but so does Ruff and anyone who says different at this point, idk what you’re watching man

That second goal Vitek let in was completely avoidable. The puck lingered long enough for people in my section to yell “Vitek behind you!” 🤦
Reallyndissappointed how they came out in the third. If you have a bad period, come out the next like fucking bats outta hell.
Our system and coaching needs a revamp. Just came back from the canes game and the way everyone on that team skates their ass off no matter how “good” they are is insane. We need to play with more speed and huger not this weird ass old school Lindy style.

I thought we were supposed to be cup contenders. At this point we don’t even make the playoffs.
It’s crazy that after so many dead years, the Rock is buzzing every game this year.
But how many people are going to renew if we miss the playoffs their first year as season ticket holders? This mess is about to cost Harris and Blitzer a lot of money. Fitz needs to act now. A goalie, the coaching staff, whatever. He needs to do something.
Among the worst goaltending pair in the league. Playing two rookies, and a Bahl in his second year, plus Seigenthaler the Hamilton injuries. Other top players injured for significant stretches (Hischier, Hughes, etc.). Meier is not really doing much, possibly due to playing at less than 100%. Playing several guys every game that are supposed to be AHL and/or ‘not dressed’ guys…
All of that, and sooooo many here think the disappointing results this season are mostly due to Lindy Ruff.
This is a hard season to watch. But the reality is the (1) very poor goaltending, (2) significant injuries, and (3) youth in the D corp…are, in that exact order, the culprits. Whatever merits and demerits Ruff may have as the HC are a distant 4th after those three.
The future of this roster is still very bright, assuming they can get goaltending that will be at least league average and can have better injury luck.
