Craig Morgan on the PHNX #Yotes show says he had an independent government source reach out today to say that the Coyotes’ proposed 100-acre arena deal was, in fact, discussed today in the AZ Land Department executive session and that the meeting went “very well.”

probably should go in the arena drama thread, but good news maybe, at least buys more time, I doubt the NHL steps in while this deal is in the works

    More from Mike

My gut is that with the Yotes ostensibly three-quarters of the way through the process of buying land in NE Phoenix, the NHL won’t/can’t come out this weekend and pull the plug.

They pretty much have to see this process through — and then make the call if it fails or stalls.

If it succeeds, great, you’ve got what everyone wanted.

I think an angle worth considering is ownership’s motivation to avoid embarrassment. Being forced into selling the Yotes would probably blackball the Meruelos from being able to own a top-tier pro franchise again. If they’re at all serious — jury’s out — they’ll make it happen.
