At last, after plans for their new Tempe arena fell through, the Arizona Coyotes have agreed with the Arizona Land Department to build a new 20,000-seat multi-purpose venue in North Phoenix, which will be constructed, built, and open in the fall of 2026. Before that, Alex Meruelo will have to sell the Coyotes and their AHL affiliate Tucson Roadrunners to a Phoenix-based group headed by Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury owners Mat and Justin Ishbia for $1.75 billion.

The most surprising thing is letting it drag on this long. The lease at the Mullett Arena expires after next season, so even if they started building today how are they supposed to get it done by October of next year?

Taint happening, if they buy the land which is a hell of a distance from where PHX people live, the county has to form a stadium district in order to add a special sales tax to build this arena. I don’t know anyone in the East Valley that wants a sales tax increase to fund the hacks that own this franchise. Move it to Utah ASAP
