  1. Reilly with absolutely no self control is hilarious, until you realize he's married to Canada's sweetheart

  2. Ottawa fan here. If the roles were reversed, like your Knies and Tkachuk example, I would be feeling basically the same way about the crosscheck. I would say its a really dumb penalty to take, sticks should never be used as a weapon against a players head. I would also be pissed at Brady and think that too often he lets his emotions overcome him, putting his impulses before the good of the team as he has done with fights in the past. I get maybe giving Greig an earfull of chirps or going in for a facewash, but stick to head after a goal is never going to be ok in this league, no matter how you try to downplay it. One laast thing to consider: I was at the game and to have Ottawa fans outnumbered probably 4:1 in your own arena must be extremely annoying and motivating for the players on the Ice. If Knies pulled that movie in a Scotiabank arena full of Sens fans I would have to say fair play to him, it would shut us up pretty good.

  3. Big fan of Elliot and Jeff these guys are drunk on blue kool aid with the takes in the first 8 minutes. Embarrassing.

  4. Reilly play is much more comparable to the Perron incident than Elliot is saying. Not sure why he thinks the stick didn’t go straight into Greig’s face.

Also, Perron was responding to seeing his captain laying motionless on the ice.
    Reilly got his feelings hurt.

He should get 6 games just like Perron.

  5. I have been watching hockey for 35 years and have seen seemingly harmless hits end careers. This would be a much different conversation if Ridley was taken off in a stretcher. I am thankful for both players that he was not seriously injured. We have all seen cross checks to the head end careers. Concussions are no joke. There is no place in the sport for that type of response. They nailed it, drop the gloves and do it right. Only a complete coward sucker puches someone, and yes, that was a sucker punch.

  6. Elliott please shut up about the Coyotes you have proven yourself a fountain of zero information. You're good at spreading doom and gloom. Go Murelo!!!

  7. The Senator player violated the code which is a set of unwritten rules that supposedly all the players know. The violation is so egregious, the guy slapped the puck into an empty net instead of using a wrist shot — the horror!— so the Leaf cross checked the Senator in the head, potentially causing lifetime brain damage. He went a little too far but the code must be enforced! If you’re not part of hockey culture, if you were an outside observer, you’d think this was nuts. No, it’s literally criminal.

  8. Elliotte you should have known Riellys hit would lead to an in person suspension. The league governs the leafs differently – but you guys take a willfully ignorant approach to discussing things honestly. Whether it’s not punishing players that have committed a suspendable transgression vs the leafs or the league giving leafs players inordinately high games for offences it’s clear the rules are not applied fairly vs the leafs.

  9. Can NOT condone any shot to the head or any violent hockey. How about the Leafs start a game with intensity, clean, aggressive, hard hitting, physical legal hockey body checks when the game starts. Not this BS. Not this BS pond hockey we've been witnessing with since the Shanahan era started. Play the game right and this eliminate this crap. I have a MR jersey. He doesn't need to be doing this. This Shanahan team thinks they invented the game.

  10. No Jeff the most compelling thing on Hockey tv this week was not Giroux…it was the sycophant analysts such as yourself and Botterill placating to SN and leaf fans in order to keep their jobs. See. J. Botterill calling Hartman barberic for highsticking Perfetti…but being fine with Reily crosshecking Grieg in the face after the whistle.. smh. embarrassing.

  11. Elliotte, as per usual, is defending the Leafs as part of his well-paid gig with Sportsnet and the need to be on good PR terms with Leaf players and maintain his crucial kiss-ass access! TOO BAD Leafs can't show the same chicken-chick, SORE-LOSER bravado of Reilly when their goalies get RUN OVER by opponents and supposedly "just like family" teammates are injured by unanswered cheap shots > INSTEAD OF THE USUAL CRICKETS!:(

  12. Assault charges wouldn't be out of order.
If Reilly was on the receiving end………… different response from the Toronto media.

  13. Just in case Elliot and Jeff forgot, the Leafs played last year without Rielly and went like 11-2-1 with him out and actually played really well defensively lol However, as a Leaf fan that teams forward group was way better defensively and helped protect the d-core. I believe that was also without Brodie. The pairings were Gio-Holl, Sandin-Liljegren and Mete-Hollowell lol Yet they managed to play well defensively.

  14. Has Elliot ever put on shoulder pads? Acting like there’s a difference between grazing the top of the rounded pad before hitting the face/neck and a direct shot is ridiculous. That rounded top portion of the pad isn’t softening the blow whatsoever.

The contact would have to be made below the rounded portion of the shoulder pad for it to lessen the effect. The angle of the contact is just as important. A cross check coming up into the face grazing the rounded shoulder pad first is irrelevant.

  15. Elliotte saying that the two Stadium Series outdoor games coming up this week will be in New York rather than in New Jersey where they are actually playing is an understandable mistake. After all, the two are right next to each other and are similar in many ways, just like Canada and USA. 😜

  16. Absolutely nothing wrong with that empty net slapper. Looked cool. The Leafs are just sour losers. Suspended o Mallory or whatever his name is?

  17. So first of all whats the big deal with a player taking a slapshot at the empty net… is it just a macho thing? Like who cares, i mean hes more likely to miss that slap shot on a empty net anyways… My first thought was Rielly is a snowflake and i think most people think that especially the people i know that dont watch hockey that have seen that…. I mean why dont people cross check any other time a player takes a slap shot at the net

  18. Elliot and the NMCs. Example was NYR around the time of the 2 drafts. Currently they have 5, 4 forwards and 1 D, but at time of expansion, pretty sure they had quite a few more. I wonder if Sather will be quite so liberal with the NMCs going forward?

  19. I absolutely wouldn't be upset if the team beating my team scored an empty net goal like that. I would be upset my team lost, yes, I would be upset that my so-called best defenseman was just coasting back after the guy who scored the empty net goal. A slapshot on an empty net goal is literally nothing. I'd maybe roll my eyes, but it would be so low on my list of grievances.

  20. Jeff essentially had no backbone and wouldn’t take a stance on Reilly. Dude wtf and students don’t practice debates like. Really showing your age Jeff this is the error of safe spaces.

  21. The idea that Keefe’s comments weren’t flat out inflammatory boggles my mind. Guy had steam coming out of his ears and was just short of demanding Grieg’s blood. Doesn’t mean he deserves a suspension.

  22. Elliotte is 1000% wrong. This isn't tribalism, this is people being sick of hockey players being complete jackasses. Who the f cares if a guy scores a goal in an empty net. Your ridiculous reaction is because you lost. This isn't a Leafs versus the world thing (I'm certain it is for some), this is about how dumb this "code" is.

  23. Elliot???? No way to sugar coat this. Dirty Dirty Dirty. Chris pronger doesnt play any more and the game isnt the same. Look at Dillons 3 game suspension. It was an attempt at a hockey play, Reilly's hit wasn't even close to a hockey play. After the whistle, no warning to the Senator player. If he had any guts he wouldve dropped his gloves. Saying that Leaf Nation is going to embrace this is an insult to Toronto hockey fans.

  24. “It is not a case of a stick directed at the body that materially rides up the opponent”.
Sure Rielly’s stick grazed Greigs shoulder, but it certainly did not materially ride up his body before hitting his face. I think this is the distinction Freidg is missing.

  25. I really don’t understand how the fact that Reilly has to skate a fair distance to actually deliver the cross check which is going to be the biggest reason the suspension will be longer than the ones Elliot is comparing it to, the examples provided are all players reacting to something happening immediately in front of them. There are actual similar examples and they all resulted in over 5 game suspensions.

  26. The reason it hit his shoulder first is because he was trying to fln protect himself from getting a stick in the face!! The intent was CLEARLY TO GET HIM IN THE FKN HEAD!! Don't try to say Elliott that it rode up the shoulder! Your not that dumb!

  27. I played for years against the "packed" teams of the Toronto area and three games of minor pro against more Toronto guys. Elliotte Freedman thinks he's a hockey intellectual but he's not he is a hockey "DUNCE"

  28. It was the first 32 thoughts episode I ever disliked. It takes much less than 26 min 30 sec to say: "We are Toronto Maple Leafs fans"
