Zach Benson | Postgame Show
Zach Benson was a big part of it got his first home goal tonight as a member of the Sabers hi Zach how are you I don’t know if Zach Zach you got us yeah yeah can you hear me good good yes there you go now we got you we got you
Now were you feeling like oh my gosh is this never going to happen this year here on home ICE yeah obviously uh when you don’t score I don’t know how many home games I’ve played so far but uh you know you don’t score in that many you uh
It does start to kind of play in your head but uh you know you try and come to the rink with a open mindset and uh you know that’s what I did here tonight um right before you scored your goal in the neutral zone there was a little uh Slash
Maybe that went unnotice uh did you hear from the LA Kings after or you should have been called for peny there after you scored your goal um yeah I mean they could they could have definitely called that uh pretty fortunate I got away with that one but uh you know obviously uh
Yeah it’s it’s nice that they didn’t call that well it’s part of your game and I like that I like that you play with that Reckless abandonment a little bit where you know you’re going to do everything that you need to do but but there’s also the skill side of it like
You remember your first NHL goal was amazing his goal today like R it gets a little bit of your skates you’re starting to fall backwards you’re able to elevate um what do you like best being that pest on the ice or having the
Skills to back it up um I mean I like I like having both uh you know you definitely like to get under the other other team skin but uh you know you also got to you know be able to play especially in uh today’s game you got to
Be a skilled player to play out there and um you know obviously I try and do uh do do both those things when I’m uh on the ice you make it look easy though sometimes so take us through when you’re like doing falling man and it’s going
Into the net I mean this is this is uh not to mention you’re doing a you know a turnaround play with that stick handle in front of Ric um just again how would you describe it yeah I mean uh that play doesn’t happen without JJ getting that loose Puck and then obviously Bryce
Making a heck of a play you know uh you know that takes a lot of vision there and um you know obviously happy that he hit me and um you know when I was falling down I just tried to put the puck on net and elevate it a bit cuz I
Thought he would have got over with his pad and um you know fortunate that one uh went in the back of the cage what’s it like playing with Dylan cousins and JJ petka you mentioned JJ made a great play to keep it in cuy at the very end
Of the game blocks a shot right at 7 nothing you don’t have to do it but guys do it because they wanted it for LC and and uh what’s it like playing with cousins in petka yeah it’s unreal obviously uh you know um both those players are are phenomenal players and
Um you know just High character guys too I mean uh kzy with I don’t know how many seconds left uh goes down to block one and then um you know he tries to eat another one two seconds after that so um you know just both High character guys
And um unreal uh linemates to have Zack how would you describe the co coach not only Dawn but the entire staff um the coaches Approach at to to you in your first year but also uh their belief in you through the entirety of this season like how would you describe the
Relationship that you’ve built um yeah it’s been awesome so far obviously they’ve they’ve taught me so much obviously being a young guy in this league um you know it can be hard some nights so uh you know they they keep my confidence High um you know they gave me
Opportunity and um you know it’s just learning and practice um you know if there’s something that I don’t do uh or didn’t do uh great in practice they’ll definitely let me know and um you know I like that a lot obviously uh being a
Young guy you want to try and get as as good as you can and um improve as much as you can so um very fortunate to have uh the coaching staff we do when you jumped on the ice for the optional skate today um there was a moment where I
Think you you weren’t following through the the drills properly the guys uh you know give you a hard time with that a little bit of a drill Buster yeah that first drill uh I I heard I heard Ellie scream something I didn’t really really catch it so uh you know I thought I
Would wing it a bit and it didn’t go as as planned maybe you got to do that every game I was going to say do it oh man one for super are you’re not are you a superstitious type or no um I would say
Yeah I would say so yeah in what way uh just you know you have a good night you want to I I kind of I wear the same same dress clothes as I did before uh try and shower at the S at the same time but uh
I mean other than that not uh not too much more than that got little white tape around the the the just above the heel of your stick there is it still there yeah yeah I I’ve done that for I don’t know how many years now probably eight years nine years awesome thank you
For the time tonight congratulations on the win awesome thanks guys
