Adding Guentzel?

What is everyone’s thoughts on this? Would be an all-in move for a team that should be closer to rebuilding imo [https://bvmsports.com/2024/02/14/jake-guentzel-on-the-trade-block-5-possible-landing-spots/](https://bvmsports.com/2024/02/14/jake-guentzel-on-the-trade-block-5-possible-landing-spots/)

No. This team is 19th in the league in points percentage despite having the most schedule victories in the NHL. They are a below average hockey team at best and may just be bad. The best case scenario is that they sneak in as a wild card again, but there is little to nothing to suggest this team is a cup contender.

They also have the 30th oldest forward group in the league. Adding Guentzel makes it even older. It also doesn’t make them a good team. It might not even make them an above average team.

They also can’t afford to mortgage the future any more than they already have. This team has no viable prospect pool and it’s already bleak enough as it is. They should be selling at this juncture, but that isn’t going to happen under this team president. It feels like we’re back in the Milbury days.

Def can’t put together a package that’s good enough and don’t have the cap space for it. He’s also a ufa at end of the season

  3. I can’t imagine the price that they’d take for him is something we can pay and it’s probably not something that is worth paying either.

I would prefer Frank Vatrano but I am good with this too.

  5. I’d be cool with him. Hanifin would also be a great fit. Either way, we’d have to chop some heads for the cap space. Deadline creeping up, things could get interesting 👀

Side note: it was interesting in the Flames post game when Roy name dropped him after blowing off the guy with the hatrick.

I don’t have an issue with Guentzel; I would certainly take him on the team. But the assets that are going to be required for him as a pure rental won’t be worth it. Our farm system is weak and we need to rebuild it rather than trading all our picks and prospects every deadline. Go after him in free agency maybe if he can fit under the cap.

This is not a team that should be trading first round picks.

Either this team plus maybe a bargain basement rental can make a run or it can’t. No more borrowing from a future Lou won’t be around for.

  8. This team isn’t good enough to win a cup even with guentzel. Roy is in the period where he’s looking at who works in his system. Those that don’t fit I think are getting moved in the offseason. I think management and ownership knows they shouldn’t buy at the deadline. If we went on a streak like the oilers did with the new coach it’d be a different story, but we’re still struggling

  9. Obviously would be nice to have, but I don’t see a universe where we have the assets to get him and can remain cap compliant. Even if we did, retaining him is a whole other issue after that. It’s not like we’re good enough to go all in for a few months of Guentzel.
