Jeff Skinner & Eric Comrie Visit Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station | Buffalo Sabres
Oh, wow. Welcome. Thank you. This is our unscheduled maintenance hangar. And it’s also a pleasure to have you here to unveil the newest nose art. This is “Sabre 38.” – [Skinner] That’s nice. – [Comrie] Wow. That’s awesome. Every dedicated crew chief has the opportunity to design their own nose art. Really?
It’s a way to put a little pride in ownership. That’s outstanding. That’s amazing. You’re the one that wanted the Sabres logo? Yes, sir. That’s awesome. That’s fantastic. Can we get to see the inside of the plane a little bit? Absolutely, let’s go. Awesome. Let’s do it. This has been used for cargo missions.
It’s been used for medical missions. And the one we use it the most is to refuel other aircrafts in the air. We always go to the games, Buffalo Bills, Sabres and even the Bandits. And they support us and there’s no better way to support them by putting the nose art on the plane.
Actually, on one of our flights I got to sit in the the cockpit, and I get to watch them fly. So I enjoy flying a little bit. – [Skinner] Yeah don’t touch anything. – [Comrie] Don’t touch any buttons. OK. So this thing’s a beast.
I mean, this thing could be anywhere in the world in a day and a half. Wow. So that’s the cool part is having that logo on there. Yeah. It’s getting out in the world and people will see it so. That’s unbelievable. Wip’s taking a photo of us apparently. You got it?
Should we take them in the back? Yeah, I’d love to see. Yeah. I’ve noticed that whenever we go anywhere, any other bases, people are always very fascinated by whether it’s the Bills or the Sabres… you know, they’re like, oh cool, Niagara Falls is here.
You know, they just kind of want to come over and just talk to us to see what the Falls is doing. You want me to go? Right here? From that seat in the center… this is what you’d be doing. This is how close the other aircraft comes. That’s unbelieveable.
But that’s not zoomed in or nothing. That’s my phone. Just sitting right there. Right there? – [Skinner] Oh my God. – [Comrie] That’s insane. And just like you guys drill, these guys drill. We go through step by step, slow and steady when it’s quiet. Yeah. With no pressure
And then we put the pressure on them like a scrimmage. And off we go. That’s the best. Yeah, that’s very important. Like, it’s the same thing we do at practice. We practice so much then when you face the situation you have so much preparation. You can just stay calm through it you know.
Everybody’s looking here. Nice. Thanks, guys. Here we go. Nice. Stay right there. Cool. Awesome, thanks. Thanks, guys. Will you do me a favor man? Yeah. Sign this for me. OK. Aww that’s beautiful, thanks man. Appreciate it. You’re welcome. How big is the plane by the way? What, would it be compared to a
Normal sized plane. It’s got 135 foot wingspan. Yeah. A couple extra engines. Yeah, a couple extra engines for sure. Sometimes I’m in uniform and people will ask me what base I’m from. And I’ll tell them Niagara Falls. And they’ll say, I didn’t even know that there was a base there.
So, I think by the Sabres being here it brings notoriety to the military, the base and other programs that we have here. What’s this? This is sick. What we got you guys is each a set of maintenance coveralls. – [Comrie] Really? – [Skinner] No way. – [Comrie] That’s outstanding? – [Skinner] That’s unreal.
Thank you. The squadron patch is representative of Western New York. We have Buffalo. We have the bombs. And wings there because no one kicks ass without tank or gas. Yeah. We have our Niagara horseshoe in the back. And the phrase means “First time, every time.”
– [Skinner] Thank you. – [Comrie] That’s awesome. Thank you so much. Can I put it on right now? Oh yeah. Those are legit. Wow. This is sweet. Yep. There we go. That’s sick. That’s a great picture. – [Comrie] Awesome. – [Skinner] Thank you. This is unbelievable. Thank you so much.
Yeah, it is very cool when the athletes come to hang out cause it really humanizes them. They’re not just some, you know, untouchable person that we get to see. They really do have lives outside of hockey. And it’s just great because they’re showing their support to us when they come out. Thank you.
I appreciate that. Thank you. I think that just shows the how the community wants to be involved with the military and what we’re doing here. And they’ll continue to support us and we’ll always continue to support them. So, I like that they’re willing to take their time
Out of their schedule to come and show appreciation.
Jeff Skinner and Eric Comrie visited the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station ahead of Buffalo Sabres Military Appreciation Night to tour the KC-135R refueling aircraft that has been nicknamed “Sabre 38” and now features a Sabres logo on the nose.
