[Anthony Di Marco] PHI and Walker have yet to start negotiations; both sides briefly spoke in Toronto last week but no formal talks. PHI feels $4-4.5M AAV is fair while the Walker camp wants something in the $5-5.5M range. Term and trade protection will play a factor in how all this plays out.

If we resign Walker, this is definitely Briere’s first error as a GM. Either that, or he’s trading Ristolainen. I can’t imagine keeping both of them, that’s not what a rebuilding team does. Unless he’s planning to trade Laughton, Seeler and Atkinson instead.
Oh no, just like the 2010s all over again, we were lied to.
Honestly keeping Walker is fine… If both Seeler a d Risto are moved either at the TDL or Draft. Re-signing Walker would give us time to let Drysdale develop and hold down a 2nd line pair until he is ready to take that step.
If they wanted to keep Walker because we’re magically in a playoff spot and Risto might be out for a while, I would disagree with the decision but I would understand it.
But there’s absolutely no need whatsoever to extend Walker. He’s a fine player but he’s not a key cog in this thing when it actually matters a few years from now. You don’t spend $5 mil in cap space because you think you might have to handle Drysdale with kid gloves for a few years. Especially when Sanheim is clearly better on the right side than the left.
I hope to Christ that this is Briere posturing to send a message that teams need to pay fair price to acquire Walker. But until I see that happen, I’m not as inclined to give Briere the benefit of the doubt on that one. Smells too much like they might have taken a sip of the proverbial Kool-Aid.
Between Seeler, Walker and Risto. Get rid of 2 and keep one idc who it is.
This deadline can’t get here soon enough, I need to know if this team is actually serious about a rebuild or just saying it to appease some frustrated fans
Trade. With Risto and/or Walker needs to go because we don’t have cap space.
Those numbers are way too much for a 3rd pairing dman having his best year right before free agency.
At best, he is a tweener between 2nd and 3rd pairing. Still not worth that money.
You will be able to sign a reclamation project in free agency for a year at half the price to handle Drysdale’s weaknesses.
Walker at that price with protection would be a mistake.
He’s getting traded. I have zero doubts. I believe a first is off the table as of now unless teams become desperate. A second, a decent prospect and salary back would be a decent haul for what was a cap dump in the summer. Briere is too smart to make an error like that.
No Thanks.
I’m ok letting him go if he thinks he’s worth that much.
Briere is trying to make teams think they need to give up a first for walker.
