GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Kings (02.18.24) | Celebrate 68

February 18th, 2024 is a day for the history book as the Pittsburgh Penguins retired Jaromir Jagr’s number. Jagr was drafted by Pittsburgh in the 1990 draft 5th overall by Pittsburgh and went on to have one of the best careers in NHL history. Jagr played in 1,733 games while scoring 766 goals and collecting 1,155 assists. After 27 seasons on 9 different teams in the NHL, Jagr’s 68 was retired into the rafters in Pittsburgh next to 66 and 21.

After Jagr took warm-ups in Pittsburgh, the puck was dropped. The Penguins hosted the Kings. Late in the 1st, the Penguins won the faceoff on the powerplay back to Erik Karlsson on the point. Sidney Crosby opened up and scored on a one-timer to take the lead. That was the lone goal for the first two periods despite both teams generating chances and having power-play opportunities. Midway through the 3rd, the Kings were able to get one into the back of the net to tie the game on a shot by Adrian Kempe. Shortly after, Kempe scored again. The second marker was a short-handed goal to take the lead 2-1. That goal was the game-winner as the Penguins could not find a way to even the score once again.

  1. classic mike sullivan tactics. score a goal, then park the bus and defend for the rest of the game trying to win 1-0, then lose 2-1 and immediately pull the goalie in desperation in hopes to get bailed out. this happens way to often

  2. The points always matter but tonight, of all nights, man.
How many wake-up calls does an organization need?

  3. Not surprise the penguins lost on Jagr’s night. The team can’t play and Crosby is wasting his career losing to McDonald’s teams.

  4. At this point, why do the commentators get excited for the pp….it more likely to give up a late game tying, or in this game a game winning, goal than score one. Pathetic

  5. I cringe when we get a power play anymore. My tactics, if I were coach, would be to tell someone to get a penalty emmediatly after getting a pp. We'd be better off 4 v 4

  6. 😡😡😡 short handed goal! Our 5Ps was looking okay but no let’s…

I’m going to watch 68 highlights

  7. Depressing loss. Difficult watch. Pens should have signed Jagr to a one day deal to see if he could have saved this team tonight.

  8. Maybe Jagr should have played, the age difference isnt that noticable at the moment with this team

  9. The Jagr ceremony was fantastic. It's a real shame that the team couldn't win a game for Jags. Lack of depth scoring and being hemmed in their own zone doomed the Penguins again, and what hurts the most is that Sidney Crosby's remarkable season is being wasted.
