Earlier this week on David Pagnotta’s blog The Fourth Period, we had word that the Boston Bruins were still interested in Calgary Flames defenceman Noah Hanifin. We also saw a hint that the Calgary Flames may just be interested in Bruins forward Ondrej Kase, who was recently acquired by the Bruins in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks involving David Backes, and NHL prospect Axel Andersson.

This isn’t the same Brandon Carlo for Noah Hanifin philosophically-devoid conversation we had last time, since in my opinion, this one makes a lot more sense for the Bruins.

  1. Listen, the only way Treliving does this is if he has another deal in mind. I just don't see the upside to this type of deal for Calgary.

  2. Your first goal with this gameplay was by Brock boeser and I’m like dang the flames really took him too

  3. I think the Bruins need to make this trade because the D core isn’t looking good(the left side). The Bruins would have to send Kase and a Couple if picks to get Hanifin imo because of the upside of him. But this would weaken the right wing depth but we did just sign Smith and The Bruins could make a trade with Vegas to get One of the players on the Block(Don’t ask how that’s going to happen)

  4. I hope we get Kase sooo badbun get one of there D too but Boston only has 3 iffy ones then Moore and Miller. Moore and Kase. I fobt want Lauzan Vakkeninen or Zboril

  5. As a Bruin fan, even though not a big Hanafin guy and a trade straight up for Carlo was always a joke in my mind, I wouldn't have a problem with trading Kase, which tells me that the Bruins would probably need to add a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick for next year.
Kase is a decent player when healthy, which isn't often, but he seems to get a lot of scoring chances but never seems to score.
He is 17 games into his Bruin career playing the #2 RW next to Krejci, one of the better playmaking Centres in the league and is still looking for his first goal.
However, adding Hanafin means losing Grzelyck to Seattle next summer and I'm a fan of the little guy:)

  6. Neither team do this trade. Trading Hanifin would leave a hole on the second pair for CGY and Bruins just acquire a good EV right-winger. Hanifin is an average top4 D, looks like he's almost overrated.

  7. The Devils fan bias in me really wants a Kyle Palmieri for Noah Hanifin trade to happen. Palmieri is entering his 30s and his contract expires after this season. There hasn't been any progress on a contract extension. The expectation is that we will trade him for young assets, and Calgary was making calls on Palmieri back at the deadline. And we need one more top 4 defensemen in order to complete our defense. This is what I invision our d-core being like if this trade became a reality:

    Hanifin – Smith
    Butcher – Murray
    Bahl – Walsh
    Severson

    This is a filthy defense.

  8. Kase+Vaakanainen for Hanifin? Calgary gets a young LHD, and middle 6 right winger and Boston replaces Krug’s minutes from last year. Win Win it seems for both teams.

  9. As a Flames fan I would not be happy in a one for one deal, The Bruins would have to give us a 1 rounder or a 2nd
