Canucks talk: how does the Robin Lehner signing affect Jacob Markstrom? Ask Me Anything tomorrow

Robin Lehner signed a 5 year, $25 million contract with the Vegas Golden Knights today.

Given that Lehner and Jacob Markstrom are considered the 2 best UFA goalies, how does this signing affect Jacob Markstrom?

  1. I feel like Markstrom is a great goalie and has really proven his worth. Whereas Demko has shown enormous potential, but has yet to display consistency. It's hard to say whether the Canucks should place their trust in Demko, say goodbye to Markstrom, giving themselves a considerable amount of cap space, and potential income on boosting the defense with Demko as the main goalie, or stick by your tried and true Markstrom, who has been absolutely stellar with the Canucks these past few seasons.
If Demko grows to resemble a goalie that we can rely on like Markstrom is now, we will be able to spend a little more on boosting up our defense and will have a wicked roster. It's risky though so I just dont know!

  2. People forget just how much Markstrom has bailed out this team. It’s not just that he is a great goalie, it’s that he can take the constant puck abuse. This team will likely get even more scoring focused, so we need him.
