This Version of the Dallas Stars can Win the Stanley Cup! Stars fall 4-3 in a shootout in Boston

The Dallas Stars lost in a shootout Monday afternoon, but outplayed one of the best teams in the NHL while shorthanded. The Stars were without Miro Heiskanen, Matt Duchene, Jani Hakanpaa and Nils Lundkvist against the Bruins. Joey explains, despite the loss, how the version we saw of the Stars in this game was one that can win the Stanley Cup. They played with an edge, were physical and rose to the challenge in a game they really should have no business being in. Thomas Harley stepped up and played over 29 minutes, Ryan Suter pitched in a goal and forced the Bruins to score a 6 on 5 goal late to send it to overtime. Bruins won the game in a shootout that went 9 rounds. Injuries are starting to pile up in an already thin defensive group. Derrick Pouliot and Alexander Petrovic were recalled from the Texas Stars to fill in for Heiskanen and Hakanpaa. Pouliot and Petrovic have over 200 games of experience in the NHL and played really well for just jumping into the fire. This is a time for the Stars to flex the depth they have and pick up points along the way. The final segment we take a look at the adversity the Stars are dealing with this season and how that can be used moving forward. A team that has been very healthy the past few seasons is running into some bumps. How it effects the trade deadline and leverage for the Stars who are down two right handed defensemen.

  1. I had prepared my self for a hard loss especially after hearing right before the game Duchy was out. I really did not expect the grit and physicality they showed today, despite the loss it’s games like this that make me really optimistic for what this team can accomplish.

  2. Valiant effort with Duke out and 2 AHL Dmen playing today (REALLLY gonna need that trade soon Mr. Nill lol). It still feels like a missed opportunity at that 2nd point given how Boston has played lately. But in true Stars fashion, they give up the goal at the end with the goalie pulled. SMH. Add in the fact that Benn doesn't get over the boards in a 9 man shootout? Speaks volumes sadly (yes I know he does a lot of "little things" but still)

  3. Outplayed them the whole game and got out goalied right at the end. Segue couldn’t buy a goal.
Still don’t feel terrible about it.

  4. Showed some real grit today. If we can just get healthy or make a move to help our defense we’ll be set. Go Stars!

  5. Esa, you know, said in his postgame interview that the two call-ups played like veterans. Which I guess they should have.

  6. No they can't You're fing delusional. THEY LOST! Should have scored 7 goals but don't have anyone who can put the puck in the net!!!!! Know what you are looking at!!!! We have a bunch of guys who do nothing!!!!! We can't beat Boston Colorado Vegas or New York!!!!! BRING UP THE KIDS THAT CAN SCORE!!! YOU OUT SHOT THEM 2 TO 1 AND WE DONT HAVE GUYS WHO CAN SCORE UNDER PRESSURE……..LOSERS!!!!

  7. I guess my only complaint about today's game is once again Jamie Benn was largely invisible. I find it a shame we can't even trust our captain enough to use him in the shootout.

  8. Almost perfect game. Hitting was there. Determination was there. Until it wasn't. This team stops playing when leading. Otter played decent. Let in a softie. But the forwards stopped playing after going up 2-1 and then again at 3-2. This team refuses to play 60 mins. If you listen to Deboer saying how proud he was, you know why. Winning mentality is not talking about how great the team is after losing. Same thing after that Colorado game. 90s/00 Stars harped on themselves. The coaches were hard on them. Acknowledging what they did wrong and working on it. Not talking about how great they were in a loss. Dallas shoukd have won this game. There were a lot of positives that must continue for a full 60 if they want a Cup. Playing 1-2 periods of great hockey will not win a Cup. They have everything they need to win except the right attitude. They are lackadaisical.
