Martin Pospisil crosschecking on Brad Marchand – Tough Call Recommendation

Martin Pospisil used his stick in two hands to target an opponent’s head. He also travelled distance to do it, and it was after the whistle. How many more criteria does it need to meet before being suspendable?

  1. As a Bruin fan, I cannot argue with that; however, I might have done 10 games to send a clear message that this type of action has no place in hockey.

  2. Can|t stand Marchand, but this was the correct call. He should have got a few games off as well.

  3. I have seen similar plays were the refs have reduced to a minor because they deemed that it was the glove and not the stick that makes contact, and that it therefore can not be considered a crosscheck by definition. This kind of reasoning seems more like a product of a poorly written rule book than an actual sound, logical reasoning about the punishment that such actions deserve.

  4. Alas, the rules only cover players doing things to other players. Marchand is classified as a "rat", so you can't actually commit any offenses versus it.
