My first thought hearing that we claimed Center Colin White was feeling bad for Brandon Gignac. I thought Brandon was showing good things and had a good opportunity to show what he could do for the Habs as a Quebec native so I was pretty disappointed that mgmt didn't think enough of him to give him a true shot. My other thought was, this is either Hughes giving an ex-client who he knows well, an audition (low risk) to see if he might try to resign him in the off-season as an experienced 3rd/4th line Center and/or, this leads to more intrigue at the trade deadline ie Might Jake Evans be on his way elsewhere? If White is actually 6'1"…I like what he could offer the Habs. Not spectacular on the face-offs but size and adding some experienced offensive contribution @ Center (not going to score 20+goals but the odd clutch goal here and there would help this team) is a good thing…however, Cap Friendly has White listed as 5'11…now I'm not a size-ist…but those 2" matter and I keep saying our team needs more size, esp in our bottom 6. I have a feeling we (Habland) will be seeing White as a Hab past this season (my guess, <3yrs @ under/not more than $1.5mil per).
I had a feeling this move was more to help Laval than Montreal. Sending Gignac to Laval will help them secure a playoff spot and help them in the playoffs. He was one of their best players getting quality ice time and in Montreal he's playing on the 4th line to what end?
you called them players???? street hockey maybe!!!! so her would've been gone a long time ago if Hughes could've got a first or second nobody will give a Hershey bar for that sorry ass
Definitely adds depth for the trade deadline. Smart low risk move. Gignac should clear and help Laval. This is the type of work a good gm does to allow more freedom to make moves and not worry about filling spots.
I have always heard good things about Colin White …Glad to have him play a few games for the team ..He should be good to re-sign @ the base level next year ..Another project to lever into draft picks etc ..I think fans will be pleasantly surprised !
Really disappointed that theyve given up on gignac so quickly. Especially on a tanking team, you gotta give a player 15-20 games to adapt and see what theyve got. I dont like this at all. People are way too impatient.
It's not an equal financial exchange, Gignac would only earn a prorated portion of his NHL salary if he stayed with me Habs from now to the end of the season.

That has to be hockey's equivalent to 'crossing the floor' and changing parties in politics, during a sitting .
I sure hope Gignac does not get claimed.
Who is Colin White?!?
LOL thought this was a joke…but if it helps with the tank, hey, I'm all for it.
put gallager on waivers
Not a fan at all of that move, I would be surprised if Gignac doesn't get claimed
I think this a low risk move that has a decent potential upside. If it doesn’t work out, no big deal
Woohoo, we're on our way to the Stanley Cup lol.
wave savard, armia, gally, harris, primaeu
low risk, (potential) high reward move. Not expecting anything so could be pleasantly surprised 😊
Could have just moved Armia to center months ago. Very strange.
They got him because they need centers with experience to end the year.

I'm good with this
Gignac is safe

This move is to improve Laval's chances. Hope he clears.
What a joke. So get rid of Monahan and bring in this guy.

I am indifferent to it. Could have some minor positive benefit.
Now trade him for a pick at the deadline.

That's just such a funny interaction "welcome to the habs, go get us a win against the team who didn't want you 3 hours ago"

montreal overpaid gignac to scare away him being claimed as 400k for him will be too expensive for most teams
Stupid move . White brings absolutely nothing
