Other teams know he doesn’t want to play for Calgary. So they think they can underbid. Connys not stupid he’s not going to let him go for nothing. Go Flames Go!!!
Some team that really wants him will panic once we get to the day of the trade deadline. GM's talk a big game then overpay all the time
It also hurts that it's known that he wants to end in Tampa. I hate it when agents/players let that stuff leak. I wish they would shut their mouths up.

If I was a GM going to the playoffs I would want Tanev more. He is a warrior that blocks shots and will do anything in his power for the team to win. He is also better defensively. Hanifin is a fair weather performer. He looks weak in front of the net but has a good skating ability and stick. His shot blocking is non existant.
Not to mention, Hannifin is the NICEST guy ever.

The best case scenario would be to re-sign him, but if there is zero chance of that happening, a 1st round pick + a top prospect + a roster player is a good place to start for Hanny. If it has to be Tampa, 2026 1st + Nick Paul + RHD prospect Jack Thompson. If there is a deal to be had with Boston, hopefully Matt Poitras would be coming back the other way.
The perfect example is Dallas, if we’re not getting a 1st from them then we definitely want Stankoven. I’m sure that’s exactly what Conny wants.
Dallas probably won’t pay top dollar for a Hanafin as he won’t sign there. Need at least one central piece. If they’re throwing names like Bourque or Kyrou and a 1st that could be catastrophic
Keep him in Calgary if the return is not good. Might as well make a push for playoffs with him, let him walk later.
The bottom line why the flames will get a underwhelming return is that teams figured out that Hanifin is an average d man. He played 9-10 years in the league and his best goal total of his career is 11 goals. He’s a giveaway machine. And he’s invisible most nights. His only upside is his skating. He’s an average d man at best but the flames hype him up like he’s Paul Coffey or Al Macinnis
Hanafin will get Flames a 1st Rd pick in 2024… Just don't expect a Lindholm type of haul.. Tanev is gonna shock everyone and Flames will get a 1st for him watch.. Just don't expect huge hauls a 1st Rd pick for each player is great.. I can also confirm Marky isn't going anywheres this season and he is happy playing in Calgary
Approach Tampa with a pure hockey deal… Hanifin + extension for Sergachev – fill in whatever pieces on either side you need. If Sergachev isn't here for the cup run this year, it's an opportunity for the Flames to keep the retool going, take on some risk and get a damn good player at the value they were offering Hanifin anyways.
A first from a contender is still 25_30 overall ,big deal

Player or Agent screws the team. Agents should be fined by the league and give the money to the team.
Rhett is right on this one. If the 1st rounder is not happening
then go straight to a player in exchange. Someone who has been groomed into the NHL by the other team. A young prospect that you know is NHL calibre.
2nd rounders are just a gamble with no guarantee that he will crack the NHL and even if he does it will take years to develope him.
You dont get a Bedard in the late 2nd round.
Conroy has traded Toffoli (our top goal scorer last year), Lindholm (our #1 C), Zadorov, and Tanev, and only has only gotten 1 first rounder. Not looking good so far.

Well if the Tanev we pay him you play him deal is any indication my prophecy of the other GM's licking their lips and waiting is scary for Hannifin.
Take a first and a high end prospect and call it a day.

The Tanev trade was horrible, so I can only suspect the Hanifin trade will be a let down as well. I honestly think Hanifin ends up with Nashville. Predators have like three 2nd rd picks, and an abundance of RD. I can see like Fabbro, and maybe a couple picks. Maybe 2-2nds possibly.
Calgary did ok here. Basically two second rounders for a rental they could resign on July 1st. I'm a Canuck fan and this looks pretty good to me. Hanifin will be a tough deal as he is a UFA this summer. Your GM Conroy is doing a good job so far.
