Petterson to become the NHL’s 5th highest paid player
The Vancouver Canucks and forward Elias Pettersson have agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth $92.8 million that will keep one of the franchise cornerstones with the team long-term. Gino Reda has more on the deal.

As a fan in a major 4 sports American city (Philly), am so happy when I see stars stay in either a small market or in hockey, a Canadian city and not just end up in LA or NYC… So I am happy to see Hellybuk, Scheifle, Matthews, Nylander & Petterson all resign long-term deals with their Canadian team… I just hope the Flyers can buck that trend in '26 and sign #97 lolzzz.

Petterson is no McDavid or Mckinnon. I can't remember the last time Petterson threw a major body check to steal the puck. He has no size and no intimidation on the ice. Not worth the contract. And he's certainly no Matthews. He'll never reach Matthews or McDavid goal numbers. These guys score at will when they want to. Petterson's not that guy either. Not worth $11M maybe 7 or $8M. Canucks way over paid. Especially when Petterson just went on a scoring slump. At $11M if you're not scoring you better be racking up 20, 25, assists during a 10 game scoring slump. McDavid set the new standard for measuring the value and worth of a real super star when they're not scoring. I rest my case. Not worth the contract. Canucks way over paid.
I keep waiting for one of these stars in the league to sign a 4 or 5 year deal… like Matthews has done twice, and Marner (6 years) has done once. Guess I’ll keep waiting.
It tells me as usual the Leafs got sucked into overpaying a winger who's 2 years older and has never come close to 100 points/season. Popularity seems to be more highly valued than on ice performance in Toronto. If Nylander was a 1C like Petey it mighjt make sense, but he's not
Terrible, vancouver will never win a cup. Petty can put up points vs weaker teams, then come playoffs get thrown off the puck and never win a faceoff or board battle. This is a joke
