Paying an asset for a marginal depth player to “help” for the playoffs is directly out of Hextall and Fletcher’s playbooks. (Mrazek, Derek Grant, Nate Thompson)
Their mindset is broken if that is on their radar.

Unless Anaheim is asking for Michkov, there really isn’t much I’d keep off of the table for Zegras. Young Centers with upside that high seldom to never hit the market, and with where we are at in our roster building process right now it doesn’t make sense to blow everything up to chase a top-5 pick where high end Centers are usually found. I think the Ducks would be making a huge mistake moving him, as historically teams who moves players like him lose *fucking big time*.
As for possibly adding a depth piece at the TDL, I’d personally rather just let Sandstrom and AHL guys ride out the final roster spots this season, but if they spend a 6th or 7th rounder on a guy they think it’d be good to have around the rest of the season that’s not a big deal

I don’t see why we can’t do both. Trade seeler and Walker away, and make some small moves for a backup G (though honestly I’d rather risk Sandstrom.) and maybe a 3rd line D to replace one of the two. Show your team you believe in the whole while selling your most valuable assets, and not give up anything more than a late pick in the interim. Had cake and ate it too.
I would love Zegras in this town so much. I still believe in all the talent. There’s just no structure in Anaheim. It’s why I was excited for Drysdale (still am) despite losing Cutter. Anaheim in its current state is a lot like Arizona or Columbus. Tons of high value prospects over the years, but no one on the coaching staff or FO who can mold them. We have that here. But like Friedge says, I don’t know what we could possibly give them. They got a lot of D prospects already and are still in tank mode for vets. One can dream
Roll-Me-Through
I appreciate you posting this, but all I’m hearing from Fridge is we may or may not seek high-end talent, may or may not be able to afford it, may or may not trade Laughton, may or may not sign or trade Walker, may or may not pursue depth acquisitions…
I just want something to freaking happen already! It’s funny that we still don’t even know if we’re buyers or sellers…

Danny should be out there selling Walker and Seeler if that is their ask for a contract. Both are horrendous asks for guys having career years at 29.
Especially when we have Sanheim, York, Risto, Bonk, Drysdale, and Zamula. That is six right there. There is no need for either of Walker or Seeler to get any kind of term from us.
I hope Danny does not play cute and try to hold out too long given the market is set. That is how you derail a rebuild.
At the very least, use the cap space to be the third team in a deal.

JM: Speaking of wondering, we’ve wondered all season about the Philadelphia Flyers and “was this a mirage?”; it’s not. Uhh, this is a good team, it’s a team that’s tucked into a playoff spot. Yet, this is a team that might be subtracting from he line up, Elliott. We wonder again about Walker, we wonder about Seeler. Do they get traded? Do they re-sign? What is Daniel Briere have up his sleeve. How do you see Philadelphia at this time? And is there a chance that they do nothing?
EF: Well, I’ll say this: Philly *might* actually do a little bit of adding.
JM: Hmm!
EF: And this, to me, is the real tell. And, I’m not talking big adds, unless it’s a player who’s going to be there for a long time. I do think Philly has taken a look at Zegras. I just don’t know that they have what Anaheim wants. I don’t know that there’s a fit there or that they’re willing to pay what Anaheim wants. I don’t know that there a match there but I think they looked at it. But I think Philly, there’s a little bit here. You can see by the way that Tortarella’s coaching. He’s gone after Cam Atkinson this week, he’s gone after Sean Couturier, and he’s gone after Bobby Brink. Like, he doesn’t discriminate agianst veterans or rookies and that says boy, he wants to make the playoffs. Umm, and, you know those players do too. I have wondered if Philly takes a couple of small looks at goal and maybe veteran forward. Cheap/inexpensive price. Like, that’s why Martin Jones is not on waivers in Toronto. Because they know someone like Philly, he’s not getting by them. And I’ve heard they’re looking for an inexpensive and not high-priced veteran forward, too. So, they’re looking. You know, Walker, I think that’s…it’s poker. You’ve got Danny Briere playing poker with both the agents and other teams. Sean Walker, I think he wants a 5th year. Nick Seeler, I think his number is a little bit higher than Philly is willing to go. And nobody’s budging yet. I’ve said this a thousand times…that’s the game that I think Briere is playing. Who’s budging, who’s sticking to what they do. And if everybody sticks to their positions…then it’s Briere’s choice. What do we do here? I think he’s still trying to figure that out. Laughton…that’s another one I’ve heard that the price is high. I just…I’ve heard it’s more likely than not that he’s stays. But again, I’m freely willing to admit that I coule be wrong about that. But I’ve heard the price is really high on Laughton, I heard on sunday as I was making my calls…Philly true desire here, if you see them go get an inexpensive/low-cost goalie or forward…they’ve decided they’re going for the playoffs.
JM: Gonna be a big week for the Philadelphia Flyers it sounds like, no matter what they do. This has been one of the most intriguing team around the NHL; one of the surprise teams in the NHL. Nashville in the west and Philadelphia in the east.

Trevor Zegras is not the answer, and I want him far from this team.
*”Another area where Zegras’ maturity creates problems for him and the Ducks is on the backcheck. There are too many times where opposing teams go on the rush, and Zegras is seen in the background coasting to the defensive zone instead of joining the play.”* [Here](https://insidetherink.com/next-step-for-trevor-zegras-development-his-maturity/)
*”“When you complain in post-game comments, it means that you think you’re better than everyone else and want a superstar treatment. When you have 17 goals in the NHL, let’s just say it’s nothing incredible. There are at least 150 guys out there in the league who have 150 goals. […] You’ve got plenty of 17-goal scorers, so in my opinion, you don’t have the right to the all-star treatment and that’s what he’s asking for.””* – Stetcher after the Ducks/Yotes game last year [Here](https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/trevor-zegras-gets-called-out-in-brutal-fashion-by-coyotes-antoine-roussel)
None of the above jive with what we’re trying to do with this team, be it “The Standard”, a commitment to disciplined hockey, or the building of a strong room. And before you start saying how much his teammates in Anaheim love him, I’ll remind you the same was said about Hollywood Hayes in his time here.
We do not need to acquire players who may have attitude or maturity issues when the goal is to build the team the right way. Think players like Coots, Hathaway, TK, Foerster, Tippett and not Hayes, Upshall, Lupul.

*”After scoring a goal against the Boston Bruins, Zegras started taunting and yelling at Trent Federic. He then skated up to taunt the Bruins bench. When asked if this helped fuel the Bruins’ fire towards a 7-1 win, David Pastrnak was very honest: Of course. You can’t do that.”*
