Ottawa Senators Must Quickly Forget Loss To Washington Capitals, Attack Predators In Nashville

This week did not start off the way the Ottawa Senators had hoped, as they lose 6-3 to the Washington Capitals.
Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan recap what went wrong in the loss, mainly poor goaltending and one defence pair having a rough night. The good thing is, the Sens have a chance to bounce back with another game tonight against the Nashville Predators! We have a Game Day Preview for you and try to understand why Ottawa has struggled playing west of Eastern Time Zone.

  1. Trade bait talks: Chabot before his NTC comes into effect in July. They need to move that contract ASAP, no second line D is getting 8M in this league. Klevin would/could be his replacement.

  2. Go Sens go.The one main thing you need to remember is to play a right shot with a left. Its a basic rule as far as most coaches are concerned.Zub with Chychrun,JBD with Chabot, and a better 3rd pairing right shot.Im not sure if you can move Hamonic but his heart isn't into the team, his lack of play shows it.Good luck on the game

  3. I'd rather keep Chabot over Chychrun. Get rid of Branny and Hamonic too, and let's get some solid shutdown right shot D. We've needed goalie for a while, so pick a proven one of those up. I'd also move Kubalik and add another veteran forward with strong 2-way play. I really like most of our forward group, although I'm not sure about Kasty. Go Sens Go!! Cheers

  4. I know the goaltending is bad but we have had so many goalies leave here and turn into star's im starting to question if the problem is just deeper than them stopping pucks lol

  5. I dont know the exact requirements for a guy to be AHL playoff eligible but imagine if Belleville had MacEwen, Chartier, and Kubalik for their run

  6. I hope the Sens are 100% sellers at the deadline. Get assets but I don't want to see any players coming back. There are decisions that need to be made on guys in Belleville too so bring some of them up and give them 1 last chance to make an impression before you make a decision on them in the off season. I don't ever want to see a guy like Lassi last this long in the organization when its been almost 2 NHL seasons since everyone has known that he is not the guy.

  7. I think the issues with the Sens defensive breakdowns cannot be overstated and they are not new. Behind the low shots-against and high goals-against stats is the opportunities the Senators give up to opposing teams are almost always dangerous and require puck-luck or a huge timely save to bail them out. Look at the sens denying Dallas a shot for over ten minutes but on the Dallas goal 4 of the sens were on the wrong side of the puck and 2 dallas players were open–Brady coasting not even in a passing lane. JM has got the team moving their skates in the NZ and OZ but the senators are still stagnant–caught not moving their feet–and unurgent while in their end. They've done a great job of breaking up other teams plays while their opponents are entering their DZ but once a team is setup, like on a power play, the sens all but require their goalies to bail them out and that's not going to happen consistently unless you have elite level goal tending. Bad habits are easy to blame. That Dallas goal I mentioned started when Chabot made a bad pass causing a turn over and then tried to take away the passing lane of the shooter by dropping his knee even though he was within a sticks length from the attacker and could have easily poke checked or taken the body–goaltending aside, two really bad mistakes in a row by a defensemen can and do lead to goals.

My locked on player tonight will be Brady. While moving him to play with Tarasenko, I think, was an inspired coaching move ( we're getting to see some of Brady's playmaking pay off here ), he's still a high emotion player and a part of the defensive breakdowns like I mentioned earlier. The predators are going to score tonight but if we see Brady shut down some of those opportunities by playing both sides of the puck I think that's a success for him and would demonstrate some of that gold-fish mentality ( maturity ) players will need in the post season, if they ever get there. Instead of raging or fighting, show that emotion by skating–he has to move his legs in his defensive zone. Especially if he wants to be Tkaptain Delulu and thinks his team can still sneak their way into a wild card.

Chychrun and Hammonic got their minutes cut down last game but it was an uncharacteristically late response from JM. I know he is a little more limited with what he can do on the backend, and given Chabot's success with playing 20 minutes he doesn't want to up his minutes, but JM can't wait 40 minutes and 6 goals again–that the worst defensive pairing on the team remained together for over 2 periods was a mismanagement and JM owns a percentage of that loss.

  8. Fingers crossed Sens bring it tonight. Last night's game wasn't a good enough effort we can do way better then that. Go Sens Go!

  9. Shot blocking is good, bc it less shots that the goalie needs to save. But if we were to play every game of the season block8ng 20+ shos. Then it would make me nervous. I'd be afraid that players would get injured almost every game.

  10. Sens are top ten in fewest shots against. Tired of hearing about the defensive deficiencies of this team. This is a goaltending issue. It's been a long time since the Sens were giving up a bunch of high danger opportunities every night. These two goalies have been absolutely leaky, and pucks that have no business getting past an NHL goalie are going in regularly. Team in front has shown a lot of character chasing the game and trying not to get deflated.

  11. 0-10 vs West Coast road teams this season. Good luck with Korpisalo in the net, they are gonna need it on back-to-back nights. Fingers crossed!

  12. To many times blaming goalies … replace goalie … same events happening… rinse/repeat. Nice try. Turnovers/Giveaways, and then penalties. Odd man rushes going into Sens end, when defensemen chooses to step up at blue line to hold puck in and puck squirts around them.
