[Seravelli] Guentzel update: Not definitive, but sounds like teams in mix are CAR, FLA, NYR, VAN and VGK. Unless something changes, belief is FLA + VAN have made strong push but don’t have goods to pull it off. Of note: VGK could potentially create more cap room if Martinez goes on LTIR

It’s the crown jewel of the deadline and turning into a bidding war…

My question/ concern is wtf are you giving up (it’s gonna be a lot) if this is just rental?

To recoup the value you’d want, you gotta have confidence in re-signing him, don’t you? I don’t know how feasible that number he’s gonna want is unless you’re for sure buying out Goodrow and letting Lindgren walk…

Just put someone on LTIR. Vegas is doing it with multiple players because apparently nothing fucking matters.

I still wouldn’t want him. Knowing the Penguins are going to ask for lots including a player, prospects and picks. Drury is smart enough to say no.

Once again, don’t do it Drury. Don’t DO IT

I’d rather we keep our prospects, drafts and players if it means just getting a rental who’s going to be traded.

Like is this guy going to be a difference maker for a cup run?

High risk trade. Guentzel appears to be a rental and wants to test free agency. If you don’t win a cup, it’s a bad trade for any of these teams for what the asking price is.

Would much rather go for a player with term and would much rather tell the penguins to fuck off and give them nothing to kick off their rebuild.

If the 1st is 2025, then we can talk. There aren’t many prospects I’m including, even if other fans are only nixing Gabe or Otter.

I’m only looking at him as a rental, but he’s basically the best rental available so that’s the only reason I’m considering the ’25 1st. If that’s delusionally low, then my bad, I’m moving on.

  8. I know he’s the best player, but i don’t think we should be giving up what the penguins are asking for. I’ve heard they want multiple 1sts and/or high tier prospects. We’d be talking two 1sts and othmann, or a 1st, perrault, and kakko. I just don’t feel comfortable trading that much for a rental. We won’t be able to afford to keep him after this season.

I don’t see drury pulling the trigger on that, and there’s no way he does drury magic and gets him for a steal in this case. Pens are a rival in the division so no way they would do anything to help us out, and there are plenty of other buyers willing to trade away that much especially if they have the space to resign him next year.

I really don’t see this move happening for us. You know the Penguins are going to ask for a 1st, 2nd/3rd, and a young player that can slot into their middle six. And if I’m them I’m asking for Cuylle before Kakko. And idk how we give up all that for 20 games and a cup run. Very few of these big deadline deals end in a cup win.

I’m kinda more in line with Larry Brooks. I know we need a RW, but the cost may not be worth it. Vatrano isn’t worth a 1+. Duclair isn’t moving the needle. Buch would cost too much. So why not instead grab a guy like Chychrun? He’d be much easier to get. His salary isn’t high, he has term, and instantly improves us. Then maybe we take a swing on a much cheaper RW with a little upside.

Why isn’t Drury doing a Vegas and having the whole team get “hurt” the second we looked assured a playoff spot, put them all on LTIR, sign every rental possible, and magically everyone is healthy come playoff time. It’s a Vegas miracle.

Seriously through the NHL needs to stop this. When Chicago did it, it was a new loophole they worked around. When the bolts put Kucherov on LTIR and he was walked right back onto the ice for the first round of the playoffs, it was just blatant nonsense. But what vagas is doing is just absurd. Magically all these high contract guys are “hurt” freeing up nearly unlimited cap space…… it’s just insulting now to the game and its integrity.

I am a guy who thinks the NHL draft is totally overrated. Outside of the other worldy talents like Ovi, Sid, or McDavid …… you really are more likely to miss on getting a good player. I think free agency and trades are where you can actually build a winner …….. so if you think the way I do, what vegas is doing is even worse. Screw your draft picks….. if you are good it will be a crap draft pick anyways. Sell those picks to people who overvalue them and get proven commodities that can help you now.

(Btw I am totally against the rangers making any trades right now …… no one is worth it.)

  11. I’m not convinced even Guentzel moves the needle enough to win the cup. If Igor is bad Quick may have to carry the team. Our best offensive players become ghosts in the Playoffs for some reason.
