Analyzing the Hertl Trade to Vegas

I don’t see this as the fleecing of the Sharks that many do. I understand why the move was made.

  1. Wait until next season when Vegas trade Mark Stone for like 25 1sts as teams try to cash in on his injury proneness…. and then he spends the whole season 100% healthy

  2. It’s funny how every trade chat around has the picks going to SJ and they still think Vegas won walking away…..
As an oiler fan I’m so listed that Vegas is just better at ignoring the cap then we are…..

  3. Vegas looking to go back to back 😂😂😂😂😂

Edit: Remember when the ninja hertl retired marty Biron with a 4 goal night capped off with a between the legs goal… Pepperidge farms remembers 😂😂😂😂😂

  4. Predicting Vegas 24-25 Roster: (F) Eichel, Stone, Karlsson, Hertl, Barbashev, Roy, Howden, Kolesar, Carrier, Dorofeyev, Amadio, Cotter. (D) Pietrangelo, Hanifin, Theodore, McNabb, Hague, Hutton, Whitecloud, Pachal. (G) Hill, Thompson. Walk away from UFA's Marchessault, Mantha, Stephenson, and trade Lehner if he is healthy. Why? Because you have to pay for Hanifin's extension! Do-able, and still a very powerful contender.

  5. As a Vegas fan can’t help but LOL. We sure are embracing the villain role 😂😂. When it comes down to it all the hate is because people are jealous their teams front office doesn’t aggressively go after players like Vegas does. People won’t admit that but it’s totally the case.

Also. Vegas is playing like pure hot garbage lately. Injuries have destroyed them and the locker room has clear issues without their captain in Stone. It’s not like they’re playing lights out AND adding all these players . They’re desperately trying to turn things around which is why they’re doing these moves. I’m honestly not even sure we make playoffs to be completely honest. Then everyone who’s all upset over this can be happy. We won a cup though so can’t take that away from us . I’ll get to enjoy that run for the rest of my life. Got the newspaper front page the morning after winning framed in my room. Not sure what’ll happen this season but this team sure keeps things interesting LOL.

  6. Vegas isn't cheating, but they are exploiting poorly written rules. NHL needs to address this or is the Salary Cap just going to remain a joke once playoffs start?

  7. regardless of anything. every trade i have seen sharks make has always been meh to wtf of a return. Compared to other teams that are making great trades and getting good value (Montreal, Florida etc) this just seems like an L for sharks. Giving away picks is not what a team rebuilding should be doing

  8. Vegas is absolutely stacked. Apparently when Vegas does it it’s fine but when it happens to Tampa it’s a war crime

  9. Another interesting part of this deal: Vegas dealing their 2025 first in this trade means Calgary gets their 2026 first, which is entirely unprotected. Not saying Vegas bottoms out in that time, but it could be risky nonetheless.

  10. the cheating knights working the l t i r again. Watch stone come back , and be healthy for the playoffs, they need to change the rule..

  11. In the McManagers I trust!!! Now let’s please not wash out of the playoffs completely!

  12. Sharks haven't been able to go big fish hunting for free agents since going after John Tavares (probably a good thing they "missed out"). I'll miss the energy Hertl brought to the team, but I'm a Sharks fan who's eager to see what Grier does with all this upcoming cap space.

  13. This is a terrible terrible TERRIBLE trade for the Sharks. No reason to move him until the summer when salary cap increases and you don't have to retain money. For some reason they had to give up two 3rd rounds picks as well? You couldn't make an offer of Hertl for a 1st round draft pick 1 for 1 after the season? The return is paltry and now you have ZERO RETENTION SLOTS. You can't retain money when trying to move Rutta or Granlund or Ferraro next year, weakening your bargaining position.

  14. So now that the sharks have freed up all this cap…. what do you think they're going to do with it in the offseason???? Answer is nothing. Not spend and save the owner money. Didn't move kunin/zadina/kakonen for anything of value/hoffman/barabonov/lebanc. Grier just keeps losing on anything trade related.

  15. Imagine justifying a trade, where the trading team has to retain cap space for 6 years and also give up 2 3rd round picks and only getting an average prospect

  16. Assuming Lehner is re-activated by October, Vegas will now have to deal with 8 expiring contracts while having only $10M of free cap space to do it. Yikes!

  17. This is a player that didn't play anywhere else but Sharks since he joined NHL so it's huge no matter how it will turn out. I still remember 19 year old Hertl and his goal between the legs, that was epic night for him. Sad to see him go but I think this was inevitable, Hertl wanted to play in a better team and Sharks needed to dump expensive contract. Vegas definetly boosted their ranks in this trade deadline

  18. Two things to consider. Hertl had a full NMC, so he had to approve it.
Also, playing in Nevada saves him about 6 million dollars in state taxes.

  19. San Jose got fleeced. Only getting a late first round pick and one prospect for two thirds and retaining 17% of that salary for 6 years is ridiculous. San Jose should fire their GM.

Even if they wanted that contract off the books, they could’ve done this in the offseason and gotten potentially more. The desperation to trade him to your rival, mid season, and retain salary for this return, is insane to me

  20. As a VGK fan I love this deal, with Stone out we very well could miss the playoffs but at least this owner gives the management team a chance to get in the playoffs every year. Can't really ask more than that. Go Knights Go

  21. How the hell does Vegas plan on managing the cap next season? Can't wait to see who they ship off for free

  22. Sharks still have 2 more years of the Jones buyout on the books as well after this season
