OK Guys, it’s time to take a look at the trade that went down earlier today between the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils. Jake Allen and his contract (50% retained) was moved to the Devils in exchange for a conditional 3rd round pick. Lets chat about it!

Just for clarification.. Kent Hughes would later reveal that the conditions of this trade are the following..
– Jake Allen MUST play 40 games in net for the NJD next season AND..
– The NJD must also make the playoffs next season..
This is what has to happen for the 3rd round pick to become a 2nd rounder.. Not likely, but who knows? Regardless, this was a trade that needed to happen today, and I am happy with the results.

In other news, Vegas has traded for every NHL player in the league. There will be no playoffs, and the cup by default has been awarded to the only team left in the league. These ball sacks are carrying $17m in LTIR. What a sad state.

as a fellow new brunswicker i was rooting for Allen, it was tough seeing 3 tendies in net but allen was the one that had to go. Also surprised he didnt make any moves with our young D men but the post season is coming up and who knows if he'll make any more magic before next season.
I appreciate all Jake did for our Habs. On the ice and in the dressing room. A stand up guy and wish him all the best.

I think even better news is that Savard is still a hab. Montreal's defence are still young. He is long past his prime, but he provides stability and lots of experience.

I’m a devils fan but I’m not really that underwhelmed. Unfortunately that was the best offer to Toffoli, and it’s better than letting him walk for nothing in the offseason. Allen trade is alright because he is only 1.9 for this and next year as a backup goalie and gives up cap space to acquire a big goalie in the offseason
