  1. Trade players who don’t perform well during playoffs. Some of Leaf players are great before playoffs.

  2. I love how they learn on the fly just like sitting around with buddies and someone googles everything

  3. Yes they will sign him to a contract like Marner and he will sit on his contract like that bum, Tavares, Nylander, Matthews and Marner.

  4. Ding Ding Ding, what do we have for the Winners behind the Marner Door? Gee Guys, I have been saying this same things for over three months now. Your Toronto GM has overpaid for Marner and now is the time to do what your team team needs and Trade Mitch Marner to the Ottawa Senators for the #3 & #5 Overall picks in this years draft and clear that Cap Space and contract and then Draft the closest to able to play players at 3 and 5 and Sign Petro to a 5-7 year deal. You'll get a Top Rated Center to play in the 3rd line role and will have time to develop behind your top veteran guys and you'll get a top rated Defensemen to play longterm on the Leafs. You'll also be able to Sign a Number 1 Goalie by moving Johnsson in a trade. In addition, you'll probably get even more back from he Senators in a trade so you solve your D problem and Cap problem with this move. Quit putting so much into your forwards because it's not strong enough to win in the playoffs as it is. Make the moves.

  5. Why don't they just trade guys like Johnsson and Kerfoot? Just play the top 6 guys more and sign some cheap replacements

  6. 9:24 I disagree. I know you said on the scoresheet, but you have to factor in overall value. Overall, per dollar you get more value out of Marner.

    Here's why:

-He scores more even strength points(9 fewer games)
-He scores more powerplay points(9 fewer games)
-He has a better plus/minus(despite playing on the penatly kill where there's a greater chance of being scored against)
-He's a magician with the puck, creating many opportunities for his teamates
-He plays in every situation: even strength, powerplay AND penalty kill
-He is known for bringing positive enthusiasm and has a way of keeping his teamates smiling
-He really celebrates in his teamate's achievements
-He is involved in the most charitable causes
-He generates more revenue for the team(jersey sales, etc…)
-He is loved by many and is a great role model for the community and kids, drawing more crowds.

Not to take anything away from Willy- I really like Willy and was super glad he resigned- he's good with handling the puck, he can skate , shoot, pass at times, but there really isn't a whole lot more to his overall value that stands out to me.

To me, Marner is much more value per dollar overall.

  7. Nylanders contract being moved will never allow the Leafs to add Petro. DO the math. Leafs would have to move Johnson, Kerfoot, Nylander OR just move Marner. its very doable for the reason you guys just said. Marner has been paid 30M already.

  8. if the leafs somehow are able to sign him for 9.5 the leafs would be f'd more then they are now lol

  9. You know God damn well Kyle Dubas is going to lock Alex Pietrangelo in until he’s 37 years old. Paying top $ for a declining dman. Him and Tavares are going to be half the teams cap until they’re almost 40. While Matthews signs home to Arizona and the idiot fans finally drive Marner out of town. Can’t wait.

  10. Air Canada sold their name right to Scotia for $800,000,000. Air Canada originally paid less than 15% of that to have their name on that building. I may be off a little.

  11. All talk anout money. Just to think that guys back in the days played next to nothing compared to these "celebrity" hockey players. How can one have any respect for a player putting team preference (hockey wise) and going for the extra million or two when he already has earned enough to never work another day of his life??

  12. No answer to the leafs signing that blewup the hockey world? How about 1977 78 Ballard signs Palmateer for $250 000.

  13. Id trade Marner, ive said it since he got his contract. Its just too much no matter how much you like the guy. Theres lots of guys in the league who can make cute passes and score 80 points a year who dont cost 11 mill. Nylander proved his worth this year, his conract was looking good.

  14. They might have to trade Nylander. The Leafs are getting better on defence but getting rid of our offence at the same time. Nylander and Kapenen. Next year we will be talking about bringing in more offence and we havent brought in a physical player or players yet.

  15. Marner makes that much more than Nylander because he's that much better player. He's used and trusted in any and every situation … and is about as crafty as they come. Probably 90 percent of the time, he's on the ice against the other team's best defense too.
For the difference between what Mitch makes and what Willy makes, as much as I'd love to see the team keep both, if one had to go, .. for me it would be Willy.

  16. Pietrangelo would have to take a significant cut on term to make that number work, he's not an $8-9 million player by the time he's 38. As a leafs fan I don't want to see them sign that contact even with a reasonable term. Wouldn't even want them to entertain it.

  17. Leafs trade players who are cup ready. Kessel Bozak Kadri. Leafs don't sign players who can compete for cups. Win are lose the seats are always full in Toronto.

  18. Marner is 100x the player Pietrangelo is. I can't believe how fast you Leafs fans have turned on Marner.

  19. I would be for trading Marner but not for the reason of inquiring Pietrangelo . It would have to be a block buster deal. I doubt that kind of deal can get done. You can't just give away Marner with little back. Like they gave away Kadri. Even if Barrie would've played well for them I thought it was a ridiculous move given Barrie only had 1 year left on his contract.

  20. I'm sorry, I'm not a hockey fan, but did he really say ScotiaBank is paying $40 million per year for naming rights to the arena? That's an insane amount of money. I did a little research, and the only arena/stadium naming rights deal that I could find that was in any way comparable to this was the $30 million USD (almost exactly $40 million CA) per year deal that SoFi signed for the naming rights to the new stadium in Los Angeles owned by Stan Kroenke and the L.A. Rams. And that's a stadium that is going to be a major host venue for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games. MetLife's deal with the Giants, FedEx's deal with the Washington Football Team, Etihad's deal with Manchester City F.C., and Chase's deal with the Golden State Warriors – none of these are even close to CA40 million /USD30 million annually.

If the Maple Leafs are so deep in money, and are able to make the deals like the one they outlined with Tavares, then it's starting to make more sense why Leafs fans always have such high expectations for a team that hasn't won a Stanley Cup in a half-century.

  21. The need for top right shot D man is key for the Leafs. However, the age of Marner and Nylander in relation to Pietrangelo has to be taken into consideration too – they are much younger and will be playing for a lot longer, whereas will Pietrangelo start declining in play due to his age?
