Gotta love the respect we give to Makar. I wish Avs fans would do the same for Hughes, but I still see many of them bragging Makar is better after every loss to Avs.

People pointing out Makar isn’t on this list and that’s valid. But also it’s why Hughes will win this year. People are burnt out on Makar fever and unconsciously already forgetting about him.
Past three seasons combined he’s only 5 points ahead of Hughes and Josi. And Hughes has almost the same +/- even though he was on a terrible team for much of that.
Makar was the clear winner only once in all of his seasons. This whole idea that there’s Makar clearly and ubiquitously at the top and then everyone else is just ridiculous. Amazing player but there are more than a few of those on D today.

Hughes has got is this year imo. He’s such a dominating player it’s unreal to watch him every night. He doesn’t have Makar’s speed or shot but he’s on par in every other aspect of the game and is more commanding. Definitely surprised Makar isn’t top 5 but his team is so stacked and Toews is so freaking good i think Makar is being looked at under a more critical lense this year.
If Makar wins another cup though then that argument goes out the window lol
