  1. Those were frustrating years to be a Rangers fan; post cup & pre lockout.
That was the apex of huge golden parachute contacts to guys who wanted very little to actually work hard and win a cup. Smith and Sather went chasing every Ranger killer they had a hard on for, despite whether or not they were a good fit.
Interesting to hear that Holik doesn’t drink because I would have thought he was drunk his entire time in NY. He wasn’t used right it definitely wasn’t all down to deployment.

    97-04 aka “The Dark Ages”.

I was in my early 20s and in the prime of my life to spend money on tickets with friends and go see games. Unfortunately those teams were shit. It was always “bring in the next past their prime veteran for big money who’s looking to end their career playing in NY and having fun.”

For all you young guys and gals, enjoy these kinds of years and pray we don’t go through another stretch like that one.

  3. So true, Holik was overpaid and was not put in the right position. He was never a 1st line player on a good team. He was a 3rd liner forced into 1st line roles.

I HATE holik. I hate every reject devil or flyer that came to this team after killing us.

I might not hate Scotty Gomez as much as others though

Jeff Marek used to tell that story back in the MvsW days
