“It Builds Confidence In The Group” | Buffalo Sabres Rasmus Dahlin Credits Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen

Coming off a few big wins here what’s the mindset like going into this road trip day day to day um focus we can’t look ahead um we just got to make sure we prepare today for a big game tomorrow uh tomorrow is another big game we have

To win so um just got to di it in now you’ve played four games with B just how do you think you guys complement one another on the ice it’s really good um you can just trust him with the puck he he’s always making the right play and uh

It’s easy for me to uh to jump into place knowing he’s uh he’s backing me up and I’m backing he he up too so uh we got a good chemistry going on and uh we just got to continue to build and I’m sure it’s going to get even better in

The future stny talked about how you two have been watching film together to make that transition easier what has that process been like for you guys uh you know we don’t we don’t need to talk much uh he’s so skilled and uh we kind of think hockey the same way so

Um we’re just uh we’re just reading off each other and if something pops up we we talk to each other but uh so far we haven’t uh dug too deep do you feel like you imposed your will last night not necessarily just you but as a team sorry

Do you feel like as a team you guys imposed your will last night uh sorry what’s impos just like kind of took over things physicality wise um not really uh we uh we play uh fast hockey uh we take care of the puck when we have it and uh we take away their

Time and space and obviously uh at the end there Cliffy had a big hit and a good fight but uh we’re just trying to play a fast hockey and take away their time and space we don’t we don’t try to waste energy by hitting people I was watching Jordan

Specifically last night running over a lot of people though and really kind of like getting into it what can that do to the rest of you guys no it’s great uh especially Jordan is uh he’s a leader on this team and the way he plays is uh is

Huge for us because uh uh I remember me playing against him and uh mini it was not fun it was scary when he he he was on for check so uh he’s huge for us and um he’s playing great right now talking you go first talking about

That fearlessness sorry I lost my train of thought how do you think that upl’s recent success has helped build that confidence for you guys yeah it’s it’s huge um you just know he’s going to take the first Puck and uh we make sure we uh

We get the rebound and um you know if I give up a two on one I’m still calm because I know he’s going to save it so uh it builds a a really um confidence in the whole group uh because he he plays unreal right now obviously you’re

Focused on your own game but Detroit last night lost your seventh game in a row is it important tomorrow to jump on a team that’s struggling early to sort of put them in that sort of mindset of trouble uh we can’t really focus on that

I I mean um we know they need the points and we need the points so it’s going to be uh it’s going to be a real good game um we have to come out uh and play the hardest we have to come out and play the

Fastest so uh we can’t really focus on them we uh we just got to make sure we are uh well prepared for tomorrow can needing those points be a motivator can you look at the big picture and use it as motivation uh the points yeah just in

General for the rest of the season like can that be a motivator I mean yeah like I said uh we think uh we don’t think ahead um tomorrow is a big one and um we just got to make sure we win that and

Then on to the next one so um yeah we we can’t think too far ahead how much has the energy over the last few weeks just changed in the locker room seems like the last few games especially at home you guys have really been U you know finding another level yeah um we’ve

Always had good good energy in this group and uh this locker room is very tight and um lately we’ve been we’ve been playing some really good hockey and uh the Swagger is coming back after winning games and uh we talked about up is playing great so um yeah it’s it’s

It’s for sure um we’re for sure more hungry and um we’re uh we’re excited kind of manag to keep the the focus after Friday with Kyle Eric like some you know big key veteran pieces belie in like how did you manage to lock in after such an emotional yeah um I

Remember that day um in in Toronto uh I got the call Mid naap and I couldn’t go back to sleep and that whole whole three four days was emotional um you know Casey’s been and OK has been around for a long time and um me and Casey came in

Together and um we lived together for the first three years and um we have a lot of good memories and uh when he left that was was not fun for sure um but you know um it made it stronger we came together as a group and um so uh I can’t

Say it’s it’s it’s a good thing he left but we we play him better and uh we miss them for sure has it felt like have you felt more responsibility as a leader you know with some of those guys gone like now a lot of guys are probably looking

At you like they were before but even more so without guys have been stepping up for sure um our our captain is not here anymore so guys have been uh very good stepping up and um showing leadership and um you know every everyone is growing and um take more

Responsibility so it’s um it’s really good

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin spoke with the media after practice on March 15, 2024. He gave credit to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for the team’s confidence and recent success, and commented on the upcoming road trip.
