Jacob DeGrom has improved year after year since he entered the league in 2014, but now has gained 5+ mph to not only his average, but peak velocity into his early 30’s. How did he do it? In this 50 minute breakdown, we dive into what changes DeGrom has made since his rookie year, from ankle eversion to degree of elbow flexion and the advantages of vertical approach angle, we cover it all A-Z of what makes Jacob DeGrom one of the most dominant pitchers on the planet.

hes my idea of a perfect pitcher
Awesome vid, super easy to understand it's great when someone speaks the same language as you keep up the good work.
thank you so much for making this video. Have a good full moon night and weekend.
It’s clearly just the haircut 🤷♂️

Great video, great analysis! Efficient movement, and with throwing, is biomechanically using length/tension, movement, rhythm, posture (everything you've pointed out!) With throwing more efficient, you will be using length/tension relationships, just like your citing Javelin throwing. To be an efficient Javelin thrower, you must create, via technique, and tissue development, massive and quick stretch shortening cycles. With the center of mass moving, and then braking/blocking to create (efficiently) linear and rotational force. This rapid and violent blocking is efficient, but is quite damaging to the body. A good Javelin thrower knows about pain! (of course, pitchers as well!) So despite being more efficient, it does take a toll on soft/connective tissue, and somewhere in the biomechanical chain it can be difficult not to over stress at any point. Looking at DeGrom's season, I think he fits into that statement. Despite his excellent efficiency of movement, the forces created can take a toll.
Let this be roger clemens
bro it’s the hair
Fantastic analysis. Would be great if the DeGrom would weigh in on this but maybe he doesn’t even know. To him maybe it’s a simple as efficiency and smoothness. But you picked up a few key differences that I think really matter here. The shame of it is he continues to be injured despite low effort mechanics
Great job putting this together
U DID NOT MENTION OVER LOAD TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Ben, can you answer this question please?
I've looked all over YouTube and the internet and can't find anything on this…
Why does Jacob DeGrom tuck his thumb? And on which pitches?
Thanks much!
LOL…steroids. Please…dopey to think a pro has increased 5 mph by eating his wheaties. So dumb.
It’s obvious, he cut his hair
Velocity isn’t the be all end all of pitching through it is important if you can control the zone with consistency I would take a guy throwing 90-93 over 97-100 but lacking control.
Fantastic content!
Throwing that hard is insane but the dude has genuine movement on his pitches, he’s unhittable
He did it by blowing out the ligaments in his elbow.
ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR AND REPENT JESUS LOVES YOU HE DIED FOR YOU SO YOU COULD BE FORGIVEN ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS AND REPENT!🙏🙏 AMEN.!!!!!!!
How??
This is the million (billion?) dollar question
Damn man an MLB team should hire you as a consultant 🤔
Are there any pitching coaches for adult pitchers who play in a 34+ league in chicagoland area?
how hard can i throw easy?
Like you said, it simply looks like he's much more efficient with his mechanics. Everything from the way he cocks his arm to how he moves down the mound. His new mechanics just look smoother and more concise.
Hey I'm 27 and I play in a wood bat adult league and I was wondering if you could give a breakdown on your pitching program
Six minutes in, and essentially nothing. Someone's got to edit this a way that makes it interesting. I'm out.
mccann and trevor may said they've never worked with anyone like him, that can feel something off in his mechanics by an inch or so and fix it in real time. mccann has caught some studs so that really caught my attention
look up mccann's appearance on the Chris Rose Rotation
He hasn't been healthy since the bump. He is now rushing to the plate. He needs to stay back maybe lose a few MPH and protect that arm.
14:53 isnt josh hader throwing so far to the side too.
Awesome stuff! Thank you very much for the video
I wonder is velocity is overrated? If throwing as hard as possible shreds the ligaments in your elbow and shoulder wouldn't it be better to dial it down and focus on command?
1 pitch 1 out is preferable to a 5-pitch strikeout. 90mph is plenty of fastball but you gotta command it and your other pitches.
And now his arm is blown out for the second time . That's how he did it .
Hello im death master labizard your video is good. thank you
I don't think a lot of fans realize how absolutely dominant Jake was for those few seasons. It's so unfortunate that he couldn't stay healthy. What he was on pace to do in 2021 is just mine blowing.
So the real takeaway is….Nolan Ryan was a freak.
27:45
2020 = short arm
2024 = long arm
It is right?
