When it comes down to it, they've both been very bad, but I have more confidence in Korpisalo's ability to bounce back. Forsberg blew out both knees last year and hasn't shown that he can be a good goalie since. With that type of injury maybe he's never an NHL level goalie again. At least Korpi doesn't have a specific injury event like that to explain his big drop-off this year and maybe with an off-season to reset and refocus can get it back. Plus when I watch them Korpi seems to have more mistakes that should be correctable through coaching (e.g. poor positioning), but Korpi's actual athleticism seems ok. I don't feel that way when I watch Forsberg.
I remember when Forsberg had that one really good game a few weeks ago, and the entire fanbase said he was the clear starter and Korpi sucks, blah blah blah. And I had to remind everyone it was one game. And that Forsberg would go back to being awful… just like Korpisalo.
Sogaard is the future, probably by next season. If I were Staios, I would buy out Hamonic and Forsberg in the off-season, both with a season left under contract. All told, about a million in dead cap for next season, which isn't too bitter a pill to swallow.
