How hot is Derek Lalonde’s seat?

The Detroit Red Wings are in a freefall, with no end in sight. What was once a healthy playoff position is now clinging on for dear life. In year two, we hesitate to call for his head. But at some point he has to be held accountable for the stagnant, flat, game his team has been playing over the past nine games. The d pairs never get shaken up, the forwards have continued to struggle all around, and Seider’s tough usage and evolved from ‘cute footnote’ to egregious use of one of your rising stars. How hot is his seat? #LGRW

  1. It's currently on fire and his skin is melting off his body. He's sitting there as just a skeleton, smiling, wondering why we're not winning.

  2. Probably pretty low still. We are still rebuilding tbh. The decisions are questionable no doubt. But this is far from the complete roster. If it’s like this when the prospects graduate then yeah new coach time

  3. I wish someone who has access can ask, in the most polite way possible, is Derek Lalonde at all worried about his job. The Detroit media that have access to ask players and coaches questions, while they've gotten a little better over the past few years, and I don't want them to be as antagonistic as Toronto's media, need to be asking harder questions.

  4. You can say the blame is on everybody, and while there's a lot of truth there, ultimately its the coaches' jobs to motivate and get the guys to play their systems. You can blame the players for tuning them out, but that again falls back on the coaches to find a way to get them to buy-in. This all rests on the coaches, and if they don't want blame they better suit up and get on the ice and play instead.

  5. Lalonde has had a team in playoff position two years in a row just before the trade deadline only to collapse. If he can't rebound and make the playoffs this season he should probably be let go.

  6. If the wings don't make the playoffs this year, Lalonde must be terminated the day after the season. And the wings must concentrate on bringing up their top draft picks in the next one to two seasons.

  7. If the wings were playing their hearts out, and the other teams were competitive, then I can understand considering Lalonde to stay on as a head coach. But, with the scenario, where the wings look just like a minor league team for two straight weeks, there is no excuse that if they do not enter the playoffs by the end of the season, there is no other decision that the wings should make other than firing him. He has made some pretty goofy 🤪 statements with the media during the season, initially indicating that the wings have a long way to go improve, to recently telling the media that early season predictions had the wings not even making the playoffs by this time. Maybe it was just the timing when he said it, but Lalonde should have probably thought before speaking.

  8. I feel that Lalonde has a problem with motivating the players and no clue how to rotate any goalie we have. He has shown in 2 years is he runs down the 1a to the point they cant stop a puck at all. He just doesnt have a clue to put together a decent healthy rotation so none are getting over worked.

  9. I also feel that the teams average is to old and there very tired. I saw in the last few games, it was shown on the TV during the game there average age is 30+ and that is ranked 30th or 31st in the league. Thats a problem, but that sits on Yzerman's decision to bringing in way to many veterans vs bringing up a few of our prospects from the AHL

  10. Maybe the Red Wings should fire Lalonde right now but let him coach the rest of the season, just like Long Beach State’s basketball Coach Dan Monson, who was fired but will be coaching his team in the Big Dance this week.

  11. I try not to be hyperbolic but if they lose to Columbus the season is over. Sure there may be a lot of games left to play but if they lose to a bottom feeder like them you can't tell me they're motivated or going to rally and win a bunch of games

  12. Capitals beating the Flames has placed them in the 2nd wild card, so now we have to run them down and keep Islanders at bay
