Nick was tough, but he loved the fans as well. In 1979, after the Rangers pre-game warm up at the Forum in LA. Nick collected up all the practice pucks in his sweater. And then skated around the glass tossing pucks up to the Rangers fans.
They didn't come any tougher than Nick Fotiu. He was a physical player and a street fighter in the truest sense of the word. Nick had a giant heart and never backed down from anyone. He always stood tall for the players on his team.
This is a clear win by Fotiu because besides Fotiu accumulating more facial-punches than Wilso, Fotiu TAGS Wilson with a missle towards the end, wowwww.
Twice Fotiu challenged Probert and Probert did nothing and those moments are on You Tube and Coxe and Probert went toe to toe and yet Fotiu destroyed Coxe with at least 9 punches and broke his orbital bone. Tim Hunter called the fight devastating. Probert had a healthy respect for an old Fotiu.
I've watched this fight dozens of times. It is just about even. Looking at all the Punches that you can see from the camera angle. It is until that last Right by Nicky that seals the win, Behn throws quite a few punches too and you cannot really tell how many landed and some did land. Nicky did also throw another punch during the fight that lands well. But , no question Fotiu wins it with that last right, it shook Behn. but , Behn took it well. He had an Iron Chin. But Behn loses here Philly Fans. And Behn Wilson is my all time Favorite Hockey Fighter .
They were both excellent fighters.Nicky said after the fight he hit Wilson with an off balance punch that stunned him. They went to the bar and had a beer together. That is true old time hockey.Gillies,Beck,Kocur,Probert,Reaves,Wilson,Nystrom all great heavy weights.Wendel Clark , Domi,Jonathan smaller tough guys.
i don't think the final punch did that much damage, I've seen it in slow motion and it was really a grazing blow. I think most fans have been swayed by the Rangers announcer that it was a solid punch. I'm not buying it
I watched his short bio on youtube. His story of becoming a Ranger from Staten Island is just amazing. It would take someone like him to achieve that. Pretty headstrong dude.

Nicky kicked his ass.
any footage of fotiu and stan johnathan going at it ?
That final punch hit Wilson's skull like a cannonball.
@GTM57 Schultz was a coward who hated a fair fight, just like the rest of the Broad Street Bullies.

It was Wilson's rookie season, and I think that he wanted to show how tough he was. He picked on the wrong guy.

Way to go Nicky

Nick got the best in a good scrap
Fotiu hurt him
Wilson was 19 here. I still call it a draw. One of the only time Behn threw lefts.
Lifelong Flyers fan. Got to admit, I freaking loved Nicky Fotiu.
Looked like Fotiu was scared to engage at the start? Nervous maybe.
Wilson looks lost here lol. Utterly confused to say the least
Fight looked pretty even to me actually.
Fot
2 great scrappers

Fotiu one of the best fighters ever but c'mon NY this was a draw at best…and no Probert wasn't afraid of him, you sound like a maroon.
What a homer announcer lol
Wilson regarded as one of the biggest assholes to ever step on the ice
