Being a goalie is hard lets be honest, players skill and the ability to score goals have only increased every year.
Devils fans seem to believe they will be gifted a competent ELITE level tender without giving up something of actual value. It's hilarious how a fanbase seemingly decided overnight last year that Schmid would somehow be the saving grace of the franchise after taking out a mentally weakened Rangers team and now it's one of the many goaltending issues that got them to where they are right now. Look at Metro division goaltending moving forward, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Kochetkov, all those teams took the risks with drafting and developing goalies, Devils will have to now buy their way to actual good goaltending but everyone knows it's their fatal flaw. They will never have any leverage in any trade discussion.

They could have had Markstrom. 6 million is not that bad and its only two more years after this year with the cap going up. Free agency will cost more than that.

I think all these Canadian media hockey people who know nothing about Jersey want to pressure the Devils into a terrible trade where we'll lose Mercer, Holtz and Nemec and have no future just like the Leafs. Cuz whatever Vezina winning goalie we get is going to be injured in the first game in Jersey and never play again and we'll be worse off than we are now. ๐คฌ
Context is a helluva drug
The comment is being taken out of context. He is saying that when the goalies make a ton of great saves it is easier to win. He was paying the goalies a compliment, despite the goaltending issue we obviously have
No doubt our goaltending wasn't what it was last year, but watching some of the games and how many giveaways they throw to the other team.. Let's blindly throw a pass to the center of the ice, just so it can get intercepted and another shot or 2 on goal happens that shouldn't have. Dumb passes, not controlling the puck.. It all contributes to the goalies losing confidence when they are on their heels all game.
