tbh the Leafs have done the “right” moves basically every off season and it hasn’t worked.
Tbh I’m with Treliving on standing pat, we can’t keep burning picks as a band-aid fix to a massive hole in a leaking barrel. The team the Leafs have on paper should go deep in the playoffs and it’s up to the core to make sure it happens.
The deadline “help” the Leafs got were the Bert and Domi signing at the start of the season. Edmundson and Boosh were trades made out of necessity because the blue line was decimated.
This year feels like a retool with all the 1 year deals and the fact he’s made trades for the future in Weber and Dewar. I expect depending on how Keefe does in the playoffs, he either gets canned or sticks around a bit longer. Same case with the 1 year deals he gave out.
This off-season I think he’s gonna revamp the blue line, likely only Lilli and Mo we can safely expect to be on this team next season. McCabe and Benoit, barring a trade offer too good to be true probably also stay. There’s a lot of intriguing FA/trade options coming up, personally I think Matt Roy or Adam Larsson would fit perfectly with Mo

Leafs missing piece is a stable shut down defenseman who can soak up huge minutes. Reilly ain’t that. Reilly contract also going to age horribly.
