Bryan Hayes, Jamie McLennan and Jeff O’Neill are joined by TSN Hockey analyst Ray Ferraro to debate if it would be worth it for the Maple Leafs to go ‘all-in’ for Seth Jones.
Did ray just say you won't have anyone to score if you trade Marner for Seth Jones??? Lmao Matthews is gonna score 60 by himself, I think the rest of the team would manage. This type of mentality is why the leafs are where they are
Marner for Jones and Merzlikins (assuming Jones re-ups for 8 @ 8.5 or less / Pietro's deal). Then move Rielly for a forward. You're getting ~1mil in cap savings in year 2 of this. Year 1 it's like 5-6 mil. Rielly you could move to western Canada for a player like Boeser on VAN or Lindholm on CGY. Leafs lose Marner and Rielly, get Jones, Merzlikins, Boeser, cap space. I'd pull the trigger on that. I know CBJ would, they need a guy that can feed the puck to Laine, and Van would love to get Rielly. They need another player on the backend. Schmidt and Hughes can't do it themselves.
I can't say who they should get to make them better but I can say they made a HUUUUUGE mistake paying Mathews marner and Tavares what there paying them. Because of that major cap hit it will be very hard for them to build a playoff team. They need to build a playoff team.
The Leafs needs all the help they can get. If it means Seth and Dougie Hamilton, then make it happen. Move the pieces around to make room. This team won't go anywhere until the back end is secure.
I'm sorry this is DUmB talk. Why on EArTH would Toronto even entertain marner for one year of Jones then have to extend him. Why wouldn't they just wait til the end of the year and sign him in free agency and KEeP MARNER .use your brains. Mitch isn't going anywhere y'all did this same thing to Nylander after he signed. They would Be in a wayyy better situation to trade Reilly Brong back cheap ELC pieces that can fill out your roster and sign Hamilton, and keep mitch, Mitch for Jones in a lateral move in my oppinion
I'd fix your power play before you do anything ad another shooter Marners a good player an play maker but had spaghetti noodles for arms an cant shoot should had some shooters on the pp so Matthew's isnt your only threat look at Tampa they had stamkos and kucherov on the side walls for one timers plus big shooters on the point plus this stupid drop pass bs hasnt worked in years every other team knows what your gona do an know you only have matthews as a threat on the power play the whole system of this team sucks management coaching need to change as you go just like the game or you will never win no matter who you have or trade for

Think Ferraro and or a couple others on the panel said " I don't see any team from the North matching up against Vegas or Colorado" as well. How is that prediction working out for you guys so far? You'd think at some point this season that these talking heads would decide to no longer make fools of themselves and stop trying to predict any more.

The Leafs Scorched Earth Rebuild has FAILED. They promised they wouldn't speed up the rebuild and THEY LIED. All they are doing is signing JT to $11 million and if you go for Seth Jones $10 million then forget this rebuild. Just start all over again to do it right like the Montreal Canadiens. Just get a great goalie and then everyone else is just a hard worker. That's all you need to win. NYI got better when they lost Tavares. Go figure.
Dubas sucks he’s the problem and the leafs will not win anything with him. BTW you had a real GM Lou Lamoriello who has made it Further in the last two years with less. How will the Leafs ever match this kind of hockey with their forward player especially with Mr. Don't touch me hockey (Nylander) These guys are just not built for this kind of hockey, they will be crushed again. One last thought for all you guys, what do you think of Dubas and should he continue as manager of this team based on his results…is he really capable of building a Stanley Cup Team with the Leafs???
