Olli Juolevi: Assertiveness (Is He Ready To Make The Vancouver Canucks?) – Improvements / Prospects

Olli Juolevi has been called out by Travis Green for his assertiveness, that in which has not been present in Vancouver Canucks showcasings in the past. The young Finnish defenceman is in a position where he’s looking to making a splash in his North American debut, but will it be with the Vancouver Canucks?

Hi. I’m legorocks99Gaming (Otherwise known as “legorocks99,” “LR99Gaming,” or simply “LR99”). An average teenager that posts video game commentaries on YouTube. I’m still very young, and the fact that I make videos on YouTube is pretty much the only difference between myself and the stereotypical teenager. I enjoy making YouTube videos and I hope that you enjoy watching them!

  1. I think he will make the canucks but i think he wont be what they drafted him to be

  2. They should waive someone. If not, he’ll pull a stecher then they’ll waive someone when he stays up

  3. Right now the Left side is clogged up. We don't have room unless there is a trade. I think he should start in Utica and get called up to the NHL after the trade deadline. We currently have:

Edler (needs to be traded at the trade deadline).
MDZ (needs to be traded at the trade deadline).
Ben Hutton (this guy will probably end up being a placeholder until the left shot prospects come up through the system)
Pouliot (same as Hutton, although he might develop into a decent depth guy)

After two of the 4 above are traded we can call up Juolevi and McEneny(we need to see what we have in this guy before getting rid of him).

  4. I was at the game, Juolevi was one of the players I noticed just seemed out of it. Never saw a smile or any sort of energy. Sluggish play. Gaudette and Dahlen looked amazing, petterson looked good but not insane. That was just the one game though!

  5. Juolevi wasn’t looking too good yesterday, he was kind of panicking and got pushed off the puck at critical times. It could just be the atmosphere and the line mates.

  6. No, and I hope management doesn't. It's unrealistic at this point as there's literally no space on our logjam of D..and not just D, our forwards are overloaded even worse. At this point I'm unsure if he'll even get an oppurtunity as a call up unless we trade away at least 2 of our D, mostly likely candidates being 2 of Edler/Hutton/Tanev. So if we (hypothetically) were to declare him as ready, we'd be doing an emergency trade of someone like Pouliot perhaps, which I personally would hate. Thats just the issue on the surface though, the real problem is Juolevi himself. Benning said that he doesn't want to waste his potential by giving him bottom pairing minutes ie 10min ish and instead 20min+, which makes sense since he's projected to be a minute munching 2nd pairing guy in the hamhuis mold. Let's be real, he is not ready for that as of now. He has the iq, passing, pinching abilities at the NHL level but his defensive awareness and most importantly speed needs refining. We don't wanna rush him into a position he can't handle as he's arguably the 3rd most important prospect in our pipeline after Pettersson/Hughes. Also ppl need to get off the 5th overall, vs tkachuk type of complaints…we needed a D more than anything at that point and Juolevi was the highest ranked D at that point. If anything blame the scouts for not picking McAvoy/Sergachev.

  7. It's not every game that a team pulls their goalie, gives up an empty netter, but then doesn't give up.

It was a dramatic finish, and fun!!

  8. I hope he does well in camp and steps up to be the player he was drafted to be. I still believe in him.
