Bruce Boudreau coached Alex Ovechkin in Washington for parts of five seasons and was behind the bench for Ovi’s first two Rocket Richard Trophy wins. With Ovechkin 46 goals back of Wayne Gretzky for the all-time scoring crown, Boudreau joins That’s Hockey to explain why he always believed Ovi would break the record.

As he should be. The numbers are fairly well in his favor by this point. And even if he isn’t there by the end of his contract, if he’s close he’ll probably do another season just to get to it
Not as impressive as they make it out. Gretzky will have played significantly fewer games than OV.
Will need 40 or so goals by the end of this year with 2 years left on his contract.
PEDS FROM THE ALL STAR BREAK ARE STILL WORKING.
Ovechkin is born in September, so he would still be 40 if he retires after the 2025-26 season.
You can never doubt Ovi. He just proves everyone wrong, eventually. They said he wouldn't win a cup, until he did.
he's not breaking it next year. fucking relax MJ.
he'll finish next year in the 880s. and get to 900 in his final year.
155% next year done deal
if ovis still throwing up 20-30 goal seasons i dont see why he'd retire
Ovi is too close not to do it. Early in the 2025-26 season.
February 2025 was my prediction.
Ovie says “Stay Hard”!!
At this point there’s no way Ovi would retire being this close
Wonder what goalie will face Ovechkin for 895
next year he will shut down gretzky
The reason why Ovi was slow at 1st half of a season was upper body injury, only after AllStar games he slowly started to get back his game again.
The chase has lit the fire in OV 👊🔥🔥🔥
