  1. When McD hits 100 asst this guy be like "yah but look who he's been lucky to have as his wingers all year – Drai and Zach"

  2. dude hundreds of thousands of parents across canada put their kids thru hockey in hopes they make it to the bigs, Hyman still had to outwork 99.95% of others to make it big. buddy here wins clown of the week

  3. Leftist mentality / advocacy “journalism”

Many spoiled kids crash and burn, end up in prison, dead from drugs, etc. He turned into a 50 goal scorer. Sounds like a success story to me.

  4. He right… Whether we like it or not. I still love Hyman, but to pretend like hockey hasn't historically (especially in the Toronto area) been an elitist sport is naive at best.

  5. Berkshire also has a history of some pretty, let’s say, political tweets that may contribute to him singling out Hyman, apparently some of which have since been deleted.

  6. I am not sure that I agree that Berkshire was "taking away" from Hyman's accomplishment. I would argue he was putting it in context as a response to the idea that "all you need to do is work super hard and you can accomplish anything" which has been attached to Hyman's story by others. This idea can be problematic because it implies that people who don't accomplish great things simply didn't work hard enough. I believe that adding further context to the story was completely reasonable and doesn't take away anything from Hyman's accomplishment, it just puts it in context.

  7. Many of us can see that there's a new cult or extremist religion at work in modern society today, and "privilege" is its version of "original sin".

Anyone who has privilege and doesn't grovel enough is on their bad side.

  8. It's definitely a "who you know" sport. It's not just money to get in, but as far as climbing the ladder…definitely who you're willing to schmooze with. We saw this with our son, as he got to high school age, and was trying to make the move to AAA and/or junior A. He got cut from his local AAA team, so he tried out for the Grand Rapids Owls (jr A). I've coached and played since Troy was 7, and he was now 15 or 16. Not to be biased, but he definitely performed as well or better than a couple other defensemen. But he got cut, and another one or two made it. He then went to play for a AAA team in Kentwood, MI (home base for Mike Knuble). He was doing well and playing well…until he got hurt. Then he was all but blackballed by the staff. He would still be on the team, but wouldn't be starting when he came back. He was definitely head and shoulders above another kid, but HIS dad was team manager and had ties to the Griffins organization. The kid was cool about it, he felt bad for Troy and knew he deserved the spot. Some people's parents…

So Troy quit, and wrestled his last two years for his school. All that time and effort in a sport and position he loved now gone, because we weren't major butt-kissers, or "all that".

  9. Amazing to see the hockey world come together and torch regarded BS. Woke mind virus has clearly affected this guy. Everyone in the world has an advantage of some sort, but it's up to the individual to maximize it.

  10. Well here’s the thing this guy didn’t say anything wrong lol, I wouldn’t take away from the work hyman has done but the truth is half of the nhl is a bunch of snob fucks because hockey is the least accessible sport on the planet aside fucking F1 maybe, and that’s it that’s all it takes. Some wealthy r cool try to spread there wealth. But most of em r trash humans. so no wonder most the nhl is filled trash humans with a bunch SA charges. Hyman however his circumstances worked hard to score 50 but his teammates will remind him who gaf abt the regular season

  11. This is a poorly veiled anti-semitic tirade. Unless he's just truly a moron. There are so many examples of financial/nepotism benefits out there, and not all of them make it.

  12. They dont as how. They ask how many, and the answer to how many for Zach right now is 50. Average Zach Hyman W.

  13. Its always the guys that look like they spend their days on the couch eating honey crullers that are talking shit like this.

  14. I'm sick of seeing people saying Hyman is only good because he has played with Mathews and McDavid. I can't count the number of players that have been tested with those two and failed on the top line.

  15. For every player that had a life like hyman theres 5 that didnt. If h work hers u can make the NHL there many kids that arent rich who make it. Its all about the leagues u play in. If u play triple A you are GUARANTEED a scholarship at minimum …. it is all about where u play and how good u are

  16. Buddy is gonna lose his mind when he finds out most goalies have to come from families with cash.

  17. Do not feel bad for him in the slightest, he works in media, you put out what you know is a spicy report on a beloved player around the league, be prepared for some backlash

  18. This would all make sense if he sucked, but he doesnt. This isnt logan sargeant having his dad by him a seat on williams just to then go and crash during 3/4 of the races, this is a rich kid who was given every opportunity in the world and then still put in work to eventually become a 50 goal scorer. His family wealth helped him a lot to get to the nhl but since him being drafted its been all him and his efforts. The only outside influence has been his teammates, but its not like anyone can score 50 goals in a season, even next to mcdavid.

  19. I see both sides of this. I think people need to realize is that hard work is necessary but insufficient for success. If you think that "hard work = success" and that things like timing, luck, connections and networking don't play a role, you're fooling yourself. And that's more than just hockey. That's literally everything.

  20. Fuck this guy for trying to pull down this dudes achievement like is hockey as easy to get into as let’s say baseball only really needing a 20$ entry level bat from Walmart and a 20$ glove but it’s that much higher then the cost of American football pads

  21. Ok cool ….still no correlation between being well off and scoring 50 goals .Burkshire is basically talking about two separate subjects and trying his darnest to mash them into 1….

  22. I feel like he's made a point worth making but he's done so in a very clumsy way. He has, whether intentionally or not, made it look like he's attacking Hyman instead of trying to raise a valid point about the high bar for entry into hockey. What he should've said is, while Hyman has absolutely earned his spot and he deserves the plaudits for it, he also had advantages growing up that most will never have. There could be hundreds if not thousands of Zach Hymans out there that will never get a chance to shine because they come from disadvantaged families and will never get the chance to make it to the NHL because they won't be able to afford quality coaching/equipment and will miss years of development because of that. When they get older, they'll have to focus on getting a steady job in order to afford to live, so they'll have to focus on that instead of hockey. As a result, they'll never reach their full potential and they'll never get the opportunities that Zach Hyman had to succeed.

That way, you don't make Hyman out to be a villain in any way. He's simply lucky that his talent could be properly rewarded. Many people don't get that chance. Perhaps there's someone who could've been even more talented than Gretzky but they were born into poverty and never got the chance to shine. Make it a rallying cry to make it easier for kids to get into hockey instead of an attack on one man. (I'm not saying that was AB's intention but certainly that's how it comes across to a lot of people)

  23. Andrew Berkshire got some good arguments. I think he's spot on and he tell it like it is. Bravo Andrew.

  24. Hockey as a sport within itself also has plenty of luck factor to consider. Is Hyman's acheivement helped by playing on the same line with guys like Matthews or McDavid? Sure, of course it is. But you could also say that he's done a fantastic job keeping up with them. Not everyone you put on that line will put up 50.
