  1. You may say it’s nepotism, but in Josh Doans case he grew up in the franchise. He was in the training room with his dad. He was playing knee hockey after games with other players. Stan Wilson, the Coyotes head equipment manager, used to babysit him. Tyson Nash lived across the street. Josh Doan has been a part of this organization since he was born. He may have been drafter earlier than many would have predicted, but no team would have tracked his development more than the Coyotes. It was Josh’s decision to go to ASU, where he excelled. It was Josh’s decision to turn pro after his sophomore year. He proved himself as a Tucson Roadrunner and is the leading scorer on that team. Every step of the way Josh has proven he has earned his place and it was not given to him. His two goals were not flukes, they were earned right in front of the blue paint. Those who say he’s a rich kid and it was all nepotism don’t know the Doans or hockey in Arizona. Doan may have given him the opportunity, but Josh earned his place and the praise.

  2. I wonder if synthetic ice will reduce costs if it ever gets to the same quality as ice. Ice time is expensive because of infrastructure, heating and coolng, etc.

  3. Greed helping the decline of Canada in the hockey landscape. Getting a goalie equipped and into the NHL costs a mint in Canada.

  4. Kid had 2 goals in his debut and people are calling this nepotism? Humans are dumber now than in any point in history.

  5. You are very correct in stating that some playoff spots feel locked down & they are far from it. Most notably, the Caps sneaking up on Philly. Not long ago most people thought they were cooked as far as a playoff berth went. Now, they could be headed for 2-3 matchup in the Metro….go figure. TB also strikes me as a team no one wants to meet in the 1st Round. Kucherov, Point & Stamkos still very scary, just ask the Rangers. Lots of jockeying still left at the top & bottom of Metro & Atlantic Divisions. Doesn’t get better than this with about 10 games remaining. Love you channel!

  6. Travis Green getting a spot in NJ is 100% nepotism, the GM Fitzpatrick even admits it is. Old buddies from NYI.

  7. The bigger story should be his freak dad taking off his shirt and trying to steal the spotlight. Some cringe Jason kelce type behavior

  8. LOL considering the SAD state of the Coyotes right now ( last place, small arena) this is a non-story. Its not like he's playing on the Rangers or the Canucks.

  9. People are only mad about Josh Doan because they hate that the franchise is in Arizona. There is nothing else to it.

  10. It saddens me that Josh Doan scored two goals in his NHL debut and this is the conversation that we have to have about it. I say congratulations to Josh.

  11. Who cares about nepotism? He will either be good enough or not, unlike non-sports jobs performance is almost all that matters. Yeah, there are exceptions, but they are just that exceptions. It is crazy that the top 4 teams in the East are within a couple points of each other. The seeding could go just about anywhere.

  12. It’s a nice option in life to participate in a sport with parent involved. Sometimes the parent is over invested but in hockey families it can be great for kids. Enjoyed seeing this when I worked in ice rinks.

  13. I grow up on the ice started at 4 years old in 1978 and I played through men's league like 2728 years old hockey is very expensive My parents sacrificed a lot. Now my son is 9 years old and he's a squirt I coach his squirt team what I do is considered volunteer work I don't get anything for it plus we probably 10 grand all in tuition or registration tournaments travel and equipment per year That's a lot I don't know how a lot of people do it.

  14. The most important for Tampa Bay what was not mentioned is that it looks like Point and Hedman should be back in tonight.

  15. "Hockey players are greedy!" Have you seen NFL contracts? Mediocre QB's can get up to $50+ million guaranteed. For one player!

  16. As a 33 year old Rangers fan, this just feels like the usual. I don't remember 94 so that doesn't count. This season is just another impressive regular season. I don't know about other fans, but to me NOTHING matters until the playoffs begin. No streaks, no "record after winning after the first period", no home arena win streaks, no franchise records, no goalie stat leaders, none of that matters. What matters is consistency up and down the lineup. To win the cup (and anything less is a failure) we need Panarin and Kreider and Mika firing on all cylinders. We need Kakko and Laf and Schneider and Miller to meet or exceed expectations. We need Goodrow and Rempe and Vesey making every second they get on the ice tilt the game in the Rangers favor. I feel like an old man ranting (old man yells at cloud) here, but I have seen enough. Henrik Lundqvist is my favorite player of all time and we never got him the Cup. Igor cannot do it alone, and our best players need to be our best players when the playoffs come.
Those are just my thoughts on the Rangers. I left other comments on my feelings about the cost of playing.

  17. I think its easier to count the poor kids who made it to the NHL rather than the rich ones. Would Jaques Plante, one of 10 or 11, kids make it to the show these days? Nope, not if it cost $100G's to get him there.

  18. So far we have:

1 playoff spot clinched (New York Rangers).

5 teams eliminated (Columbus and Arizona this week. Chicago, Anaheim, and San Jose over the past 2-3 weeks).

Now that teams are down to their final 9-12 games of the regular season, we'll start to see more teams clinch playoff spots or be eliminated officially over the next couple weeks. Vancouver and Dallas both with a chance to clinch tomorrow, but since they play each other, only one might clinch unless Vancouver wins past regulation and St Louis loses their game tomorrow, which would allow Dallas to clinch as well.

  19. In the 80"s, 90's early 2000's… It was 1st, who you know, 2nd size and 3rd talent… right from atom through to JR, including World Juniors.

  20. I'd wager 95% of players currently in any professional league come from "rich" parents lol, do y'all know how much it costs to play this sport let alone get on the elite development teams??
